repost from another forum

They said they just found out it's bacterial. The dogs are quickly getting a 107+ fever and dying. They are still trying to figure it out. I hope it's not going around...

WOW, scary indeed.

As a side note, is kennel cough fatal? Our food suplier is a Irish Wolfhound owner and he told me of a story. His breeder/neighbour had 5 wolfhounds and one passed last week from kennel cough it cought at a show. that scared me.

These are not the stories I want to hear! Sad Bella is sick right now. I think it is kennel cough and a sore, red ear and a gooky eye. The vet will be seeing her at 3p.

My vet says kennel cough is NOT fatal...of course he qualified it by saying that with extenuating circumstances almost ANY illness COULD be fatal.

UPDATE

Just a follow up about the dog sickness

Looks like it's a strain of strep. Glad they at least figured it out and could hopefully treat it (?) Geez that's scary!

Yikes!
Nancy, the vet put her on an antibiotic to cover any secondary infection she might have and gave me drops for her ear. I added some probiotics for her, not sure if they work for dogs, but I figure it can't hurt. She also had a belly rash and he said the antibiotic would cover it if it was staph. The ear and the belly and the other two spots on her elbows all could be an allergic reaction (I think?), and the vet thought that is what her ear looked like.
She is coughing less and not as lethargic. He said he would call in Hycodan(narcotic cough suppressant), but she really is not that bad and I hope she does not get there. He said to call him if her cough gets more frequent or if it keeps her awake at night because if she coughs too much, it could become a habit?
Thanks for asking!

Oh!! I hate to hear all this....

I hope to never hear of a case of this strep around here or anywhere else!

Maybe they will get a handle on it and it will dwindle away,....Wish they knew how it got started.

Kennel Cough is like a cold, right? Hope Bella is better now...

This thread and the one about the chicken jerky treats and then the auction junk has me depressed!! I think I'll read a few happier ones before logging off.
Hope everyone's doodles are healthy and sleeping about now!!
Cool
