I've always wormed my pups at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. I'm reading online in different places of many who don't do this...
So I'd like the opinion of breeders here please. _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net

Hi Tink...cute avatar!
I routinely deworm my litters, same schedule as you. I use Safeguard.
I think that some breeders are against chemical deworming and use more holistic methods...but it is wise to deworm because the worms are dormant in the mother and stress (like giving birth) can cause them to become active...I'd rather deworm before any symptoms. _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

Thanks Jac, that's one of my puppies from last fall.
I just wormed all the pups before they go home and wormed the 2 week olds for the first time today. I buy Nemex liquid from my vet. What do you use? _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net

| Do you worm the mother before the breeding? Does that help? |

I do worm the dams before the breeding and as soon as the pups are weaned. I figure with them constantly cleaning up after the pups they're more likely to pick up something from the ground too. _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net

another thing with worming: when breeders have horses worming is even more important as horse's poop contains worms as well. and even if the horse poop is picked up , there is still minute remnants on the ground.
and don't you worm the older pups at 10 and 14 weeks? i can't remember now. _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

Good point Annmarie.
Living where I do, we have many horses around us and going past our house daily. Not to sound nasty, but most are Amish horses and they're not known for vaccinating or worming etc... so I'd not be surprised if their horses would have worms. _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net

I worm at 2weeks with Nemex2
4weeks with Pyrantal
6weeks with safeguard
and 8weeks with Safeguard for 3 days
(sometimes if poop is inconsistant between i will worm again
sometimes if you dont catch the cylce that needs to be done in case they reinfest themselves
i worm moms after they whelp with Pyrantal
and every 2 weeks as well
when pups are weaned i worm the moms with drontal or safeguard for 3 days depending on what i have on hand
all my pups go home with Drontal in case Worms show up on vet fecal so they dont have to pay for worm meds
and i send home albon if they get stress coccidia
i try my best to cover it all,i want the pups first day home as uneventful and stress free for the pups and my new families _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville(Virginia)
