The following ad was posted on a site where I frequently advertise...
It struck me wrong on SEVERAL points! I sometimes can't believe the mentality of people...

Beautiful Labradoodles - 8 weeks old

Family raised Labradoodles. Mother and Father are both members of our family. Mother is a black Labrador Retriever, 6 years old. Father is a Standard Poodle, 2 years old. This is Mom's first litter, born on February 7th. The litter is nine total and seven of them are for sale. Both parents have excellent temperaments and gentle dispositions. We have 5 children ages 25, 16, 14, 7, and 6. The puppies get lots of attention and one-on-one time with the kids. They are intelligent, well-adjusted, and playful. The have had their dew claws removed and their six week shots. We will be glad to provide the contact info of our vet for reference. Nursed until 4 weeks then provided Science Diet dog food exclusively.

TINK unfortunately there are some people that jump on the bandwagon taking advantage of the DOODLE....there is one breeder 30min from me that has NO testing, and similar to that add that charges $1200+

also i see more wrong with that ad but i am not getting into it.
weaned too early, 6 week shots! and MORE! UGH!!!!

ads like that disgust me.

I have to say that I would have thought it a lovely sounding ad!
But I don't know the proper weaning age & 6 week shots are too early?
Is 6 years old a ridiculous age to have a first litter?
And I gather testing is missing-hips? what else?
Please educate me & maybe others too!

Megan the things tht really stood out to me... that I put in bold... the dam is 6 and having her first litter... by 6 she should be retired, not starting to have pups! That's like a 42 yr old woman trying to have her first... just not advisable or the safest route since the dog would not have the prenatal care and specialists watching the high risk pregnancy like a person would

Pups only start eating gruel at about 3 weeks... to be completely off their dam by 4 weeks is outrageous in my mind. at that age mine are still nursing and when I mix the gruel they're getting puppy formula in with it. There's no reason I can think of if Mom is doing well to remove the pups from her that young. Mine stay on Mom till SHE tells them they're done. It wasn't uncommon to see them still snacking at close to 8 weeks when left to their own timetable.

ANd for pups from that scenario I have no clue how they think they're going to get $1500 per pup!

Tink: Thanks for explaining.
Yes, I remember now that my Mom's puppies always fed longer than 4 weeks. In fact I think the only reason they stopped was because they had to in order to move to their new home. Or I seem to remember the Mom dog would know instinctually when it was time to quit & my Mom would say "I guess that's it for nursing, she's had enough!")
I'd never thought about 6 years being rather old to start-you are so right-very interesting.
When I bought that sick lab (coccidia, mange, allergic disorder) he had had shots & the vet was not happy -not that it hurt the puppy but that it was useless so early & I had to repeat them all anyway (I think that was the story).
But you see how that ad sounded fine to novice puppy buyers?
