Jac, I'm interested in how well you are doing with the steam cleaner you posted about earlier this year. Which model did you get, the VX5000? Did you get the cart to go with it? How do you like it after having used it for a while?

I've bought another good toy on the recommendation of a friend who has seven cats and (probably) a Collie/St. Bernard cross who has Major Hair. It's the iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner... the robot who does the work for you! It's a real kick in the pants, and the dogs go nuts the first time they see it in action. Guaranteed to entertain the most discriminating doodle. I like it because I can walk dogs and clean up the kitchen while Roomba is cleaning the floors. What luxury!

Roomba can be programmed to vacuum automatically at a specified time each day. And she talks when it's time to clean the brushes!

I bought mine online at CostCo.com, but they've got it in the CostCo warehouses, now so save the shipping cost and pay just $275 in the store.

My friend has also ordered the iRobot Scooba floor washing machine. I'm waiting with bated breath to hear how that one works! It only washes about 250 square feet on a single charge, but that's better than nothing!

I love my Roomba & Scooba too! I have hardwood floors throughout. Roomba cleans up every particle or furball and Scooba washes! Awesome!

I used both of these around my Springer and he was good with it. I have yet to try it around Bogie.............lol...............this should be a hoot!

Annmarie, I don't Have a steam cleaner, that's why I was interested in the one Jac got. I still have the Vapor Systems site bookmarked, and was thinking it's about time....

Anyone else use one? I seem to think the one Jac got used a Lot less H2O, which would be Really nice for working indoors.

Linda, that's good to know about Scooba. I was a bit nonplussed that it only cleans 250 square feet, since I've got about 840 sf of linoleum downstairs, mostly the great room where the dogs and I pretty much live, so I'd love to clean the whole thing at once. Even Roomba is on her last legs by the time she starts the kitchen... the third section.

Deb, I have the roomba, scooba, and the dirt dog! I love them all. The dirt dog cleans up "BIG" messes that the roomba won't get. It's not a vacuum, it's more of a broom and dust pan instead.

Wow! I am impressed....you mean you just leave them running and your house stays clean? Does Echo leave them alone?

Wow I like the sound of that - I have a hard time vacuming - pay for it for days when I do.

So the scoomba washes floors ?? gosh I could sure use that in the kitchen between Annabelle and DH, the floor is always sticky!

I bet Annabelle would leave it alone, she is such a scardy Shocked

Basically that's how it works! It's wonderful. They have "virtual walls" that you can set up. When they come to the "wall" they turn themselves around and go the other way. They also automatically turn around when they come to stairs so they don't fall down them. They can be remote controlled, and if their batteries are low and they are within a few feet of the docking station, they will go there automatically to recharge!

Depending on Echo & Stihl's moods at the time, they'll either bark at them & chase them around or let the roombas work around them. They're pretty quiet so they don't even disturb our guinea pigs when they bump into their cage. Of course the dogs are always playing around the cage and they are much louder than the roombas.

You mean there actually IS something called the Dirt Dog??? I thought you meant you had a "dirt dog" to help make a mess. Laughing That's what I've got! FIVE dirt dogs! They go outside, roll each other around in the dirt, bring it back in the house! With only a couple of inches of rain last year, my once hard-packed earth has become a layer of fine powder that seems to permeate everything in the house.

So what's the dirt dog? I Do have more than Roomba can handle, so sweep up the worst of it before I unleash Roomba. I'm amazed at how much it still picks up after I've done the little broom and dustpan routine.

My friend with all the cats and the dog with Big Hair says she has to clean Roomba about every half hour, but that still beats spending the Entire day vacuuming, which she would have to do in a fairly sizable house. She loves it.

Oh, Gene, the plain old dry powder was actually an improvement. Last summer, they'd go out, cavort in the recently watered bank of ice plant, THEN roll each other in the powder, and every one of them came in Covered in mud up to and including their bellies. And there were Seven of them then!

You're right, mud dries and falls of as that good old powder.
