Chouette is definitely a superb ambassador for her breed. We took her to a Fourth of July event at our sailing club, and first of all she was a kid magnet; I had them clinging to her like flies. And of course she was a champ through it all, followed them around, enjoyed being petted, but never got hyper. There was a woman there whose husband and son are allergic to dogs, and she'd been researching doodles on the web, so she was tickled to be able to point out to her husband how sweet and smart Chouette was. Later when Chou was sleeping the sleep of the all-played-out under our table I saw Susan showing her husband again how calm and well-behaved she was. That's what amazed everyone: that while she was still obviously a puppy and had a puppy's endearing ways, she was also really mellow.

Someone asked how I knew, buying over the internet, that I wouldn't end up with something different from my expectations. I explained about this forum and the way both owners and breeders talk on it, and how comfortable one can be once you get to "know" people here. I also assured those who were interested that I was told that both Chou's parents were very calm dogs and I'd seen pictures, and that Chou came with a two-year guarantee for health issues, her parents were certified for hips and eyes, and she had been checked thoroughly by a vet before her arrival. Might have made a few converts.

Most of the people I talked to were familiar with labradoodles and were very impressed!

Yup, I told her you'd all be proud of her!

Hope your doodles are out of jail by now! 80-year-old aunt and uncle...sure!

Way to go Chouette
Good for you too Leslie, it is wonderful
when other people say such nice things about your dog.
We take Denver to a school for his walks everyday, when we
are not going to the beach and the other night he was heading towards
a young girl who he has never met before, there was a lady standing near
by and before I could give Denver the go ahead she turned to the girl
and said don't be afraid of his size, that is Denver and if you ever
want to meet a large dog he is the one to meet. She went on and
on about how sweet and gentle he is etc. I did not have to say a word
but I sure was proud to hear other people talk so highly about him. Wink
He met the girl and now has another new friend as he lived up to all
that was said about him.

What a lovely compliment, Sue. And inborn temperament will only take a pup so far, so it has to be a tribute to your training as well!

Thank you Leslie, what a kind thing to say.
Lynn you are right we have all embraced this breed
and by talking so highly of our dogs and showing their incredible temperment is the way to teach the world
of this fabulous breed.

That's also the best way to counter the negativity that someone mentioned in another thread! Yes, this is my labradoodle. Isn't he (or she) wonderful? They're super dogs, originally bred in Australia because...&c, &c.

Anyway, how could anyone not love those faces?

ahhhhhh Leslie...that is sooooo nice to hear and Chouette is sure to win many more hearts as time continues.

It's funny but at the local pizzeria we are requested to bring Peanut in for a visit every week. This has been going on for 4mos now. Peanut recently was around some 3 to 6yr olds for her first time. I was truly amazed that all she did was sit patiently not jumping at all.

And at a mom/pop pet supply store the way the owner talks about Max, you'd think she was his mommie Very Happy

Seems these doodles have a way of warming hearts.

What a wonderful story!!!

I'm beaming and smiling....so happy that you are so happy with Chouette. I completely understand the questions or "risks" for long distance placement, and sadly I've heard some sad stories, with a local family who worked with a non-local breeder - who does NOT post on this forum by the way. Anyway, I try hard to give as much info as possible to hopefully make myself and our puppie as known as possible by long distance.
