|
|
A labradoodle seems like the perfect dog for us. We could go with either a mini or medium (up to 40 pounds). We have been searching and it seems like the quality breeders charge $2000 plus. We live in the southeast and can only spend up to $1200. Can you all help us?
Thank you. |

Maybe you would want to try a Schnoodle or a Cavapoo? They are small and not as expensive as most mini's. Here is a breeder whose website states that testing is done, and they have available puppies that look adorable! Check out the alumni page, scroll down for adult Schnoodles or Cavapoos However, I do not know anything about them, so I would check it out for yourself! My neighbor has a Cavalier and she is the sweetest dog in the world. And Schnauzers are smart.
Good luck and keep us posted!

And I forgot! Maureen has mini's! Some forum members have her puppies. I do not know the price but I think she does ship...check out her website:

Also just a note reguarding Mini Labradoodles
Labs dont come in mini or toy sizes, its hard for a breeder to be able to predict the size a labradoodle or goldendoodle, for that matter ,
will end up being,
in fact there can be different sizes within the same litter
if you have size stipulations where you live i dont think i would recommend a labradoodle
some breeders infuse smaller breeds to get their size, the breeds they use are not always the best breeds to compliment the Doodles,
it brings in alot of temprament and health issues, not to mention takes away from them truly being Labradoodles IMHO
I do address the sizes issues on my page if you want to research some more _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville(Virginia)

I don't think you should have a big problem finding a doodle in that size in your price range...just keep looking. Nancy is right - there are never any guarantees with size, but it's a fairly good bet if the mom and dad are both 40 lbs that their puppies won't be 80 lbs
Oh - just to let you know, our Kirby (the brown doodle in my avitar) is 43 lbs so a 40 lb doodle isn't that small
Good luck with your search. _________________ Leslie M |

Thanks to all of you for all of your help. Thanks Lauren for the names of the breeders. Is it ok to buy from a breeder that is not a member of one of the associations? One breeder told me not to get F1b puppies. Is that true?
Thank you for all of your help!

Yes, as long as they do good testings on their dogs its fine. Why did they say that? Riley is an F1B and he's fine, what was their reasoning behind telling you that?? _________________ Lauren and Riley (F1B Labradoodle) |

sorry if i confused anyone...what I was trying to say is that looking at the parents is a decent indication of the puppy's future size. For example, 40 lb mom and 40 lb dad would likely have puppies 30-50 lbs. 80 lb mom and 80 lb dad would probably not produce a 40 lb puppy.

hmmm...I wonder why they would say this. F1B puppies are less likely to shed than F1s, but would likely require more maintenance for their hair. Dexter (white dog in avitar) is a standard F1B and is a big goofy loveable guy. _________________ Leslie M |

Good luck on your puppy search, do lots of research and ask lots of questions about what kind of testing and results
I think that is odd that a breeder would tell you Not to get an F1B, my guess is that breeder does not breed F1B's and wanted your business, I can think of no other reason to say that _________________
