Buying Puppies off the Web.

I'm with Tink....I get my doggies for LIFE so I am one of those people when buying a dog from someone else, will spend a good hunk of time with the litter in making my choice.
I have picked for other people and luckily they were excellent matches!

I feel if you give the breeder the right info they can match a puppy to your family as well as you can pick one out. The breeder spends many hours with the puppies and learns each one so if you tell a breeder what your looking for in a puppy and they are doing their job then the match will fit for sure. I do ship and have never had a problem, but that works for me, some breeders don't and that works for them. I do allow visitors and have never had a problem there either but we do take precautions some breeders don't again we all will run our progrmas different since we are different but we all love oure dogs just the same.

You just have to find what works for you whether your buying or selling. Smile

I too researched online for a breeder, but I am just not comfortable enough to have someone else pick out my puppy for me and then to ship such a precious being.
If I felt very strongly about acquiring a pup that required a plane trip, I would fly out and bring him/her back with me in the cabin.

i think if you find a breeder that belongs to the alaa or alca, you are pretty likely to get a nice dog. i have bought 4 labradoodles off of the net, and all of them are exceptional. Very Happy

I found my breeder when my sister got her puppy from her. Pam found her on the internet and had done a lot of research ahead of time She corresponded with Lucile (the breeder) for probably 6 months before she got her dog. She was originally going to get a cockapoo but when Pam got to the breeder's house in Tennessee, the puppy was so tiny and shy, the breeder suggested that she might want to pick another, bigger puppy (Pam has three very rambunctious boys!). She ended up with Shoney, who is a 70 lb. teddy bear! He turned out to be such a wonderful dog, when the time came for me to find my own puppy, I already had a great rapport with Lucile (the breeder). She sent me pictures and updates every week, and we still email each other several times a week. By the time we finally drove up to Tennessee to pick Tyke up, I felt like I already knew Lucile and her family!
There's certainly nothing wrong with getting a pup from a breeder off the internet, but I'd advise doing your homework. In my case, I not only got a terrific puppy, I made a good friend too.

I hate to differ, BUT, I don't know about any of the other organizations but I do know that the IALA does audits every year on their breeders. There are times when an unethical breeder will slip thru but, in time, these breeders will be dealt with and removed from the organization but there is a process that has to be followed, as with anything else. The buyer has to do their homework also which goes back to "trust but verify". Don't take anyone's word that they have done testing, ask for copies of the original tests, ask for their vets name and then call that vet. Do all of this before putting down a deposit. Go with your gut and run if you see any red flags Wink

I don't see a problem researching a breeder online, but I have always wanted to select my puppies and have collected them in person. I always insist on seeing the puppies with the mother, and on knowing they were bred in the breeders home, and carefully socialised as far as possible as well as having all the usual health checks done.

Also, I would only buy from a breeder who insisted on meeting and vetting personally the potential owners of her puppies.

(I hope I'm not being contentious here, but I have recently been involved in setting up the UK labradoodle rescue organisation, which has become necessary because of careless breeding, uninformed puppy buyers and all sorts of bad goings on which has reinforced my views Rolling Eyes
