| what did your sick puppy have? if you suspect you bought from a puppy mill in disguise or a cruel BYB i would contact the SPCA (http://ontariospca.ca/1.shtml). We only have laws about the humane treatment of animals, not against shipping/selling a sick puppy. But if they sent a sick one to you I would want to send the SPCA all over their operation to make sure the mom and other pups are ok. They could be charged up to 10k and 5 yrs in jail occording to legeslation Bill C-22, they are guilty of "Failing to provide adequate care". I'm not sure about covering congenital defects in a contract. Congenital defects are not necessarily hereditary. I think covering hereditary defects is something that should definitely be covered. But a congenital defect, can just be a freak thing, and those are usually noticed before the puppy goes to their new home. A congenital disorder is usually present at birth. As where a hereditary disease may not be seen until the puppy is older and already in their new home. I agree that some congenital defects are hereditary, but then their are congenital defects, which is uncontrollable and tests are not out there to rule them to be hereditary or just a freak thing. I guess maybe it's all in the way we word our contracts, thus should be specific in what diseases that we will actually take responsibility for.

| Linda wrote: | Nancy, you are a reputable breeder. Don't worry yourself about this law. I am sure if it passes you would not encounter a problem.
I personally think most people are 'good' BUT if someone is looking to get something for nothing, they would be better off purchasing in NJ where they can get reimbursed DOUBLE the cost of the pup! |
Thanks Linda, wow, now that law really needs to be changed!!! YIKERS _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville

Hi Nancy, Glad you are feeling better. I too have that pre existing condition you just dealt with I got Abby from the Mother Daughter con artists from Guelph Ont. They overcharged me (lied about exchange rate), sent me a puppy with Conjunctivitis, Ear Mites (which had been there long enough for a secondary infection. Outdated health certificate, the last entry was for a 7wk old puppy not the 13 week old puppy. They rushed shipment (one day) to avoid booster shots. The puppy arrived FILTHY with puss in the eyes and VERY FOUL ODORS. She hadn't been bathed at all judging by her ears et al. She arrived at 1:30 and was in the vets office at 3:30. I asked the breeder about temperment and was assure she was good with kids etc. The puppy was afraid of it's own shadow as if it had been low dog on the totem which had been bullied a lot. She's just now settling a bit but is VERY WARY of new people and children which makes me believe that the puppy mill operator does not monitor interaction with their kids and dogs!!! I wish I could post their kennel names but alas I'd get in trouble with the moderators. So if the words Dream or Lane are in the Kennel Name (they have two locations) up their in Ontario and the neighboring area, STAY AWAY or be prepared to be misled. _________________ mtd/renee/abby/dr katz

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them. We got Hershey from them and couldnt be happier with her. She was healthy, we took her to the vet on the way home and he gave her a great review, she was happy, social, well adjusted, pretty much the perfect doodle. Everyone who met her as a puppy was blow away in a good way with her. And we are familiar with puppy mill puppies, our friends saved a standard poodle from one and it was a very different dog....Could something have happened during shipping? I picked Hershey up in person.
.........but Hershey did have mites that required a shampoo treatment, nothing to serious.
Can you PM me with some of your details of your expereince, I currently reccommend them to others but would like to hear you experience and may take that into consideration. |
