Labradoodles and children's allergies

My doodle is an Australian Mutligen. At this point I would say that since you have a few choices, visit with the breeders and the puppys. I really think all of the dogs you have mentioned have a very good chance of not causing you allergy problems. So next I would start looking at testing that has been done, contracts, how well you click with each breeder, and the personalities of the puppies and the parents. My guess is you will just have a gut feel about a particular breeder or puppy. I knew I wanted a doodle but wasn't as particular about the type or generation as long as it looked like it was going to be a non shedding puppy. I chose my puppy because of the breeder and the temperment and size of the parents. He just happened to be and Australian but I would have been fine with a F1b as well.

Thanks! I'm trying to schedule a "playdate" with our kids and a few of the dogs, but I get the feeling I'm comparing apples to apples as far as the allergies go and that that doesn't need to be the deciding factor anymore, now that we've narrowed down the choices.

Annmarie...Di....anyone else....do Goldendoodles that might shed have the coarser guardhairs that are a different texture or feel?

That's a key for Labradoodles and I see Peanut has had a consistent texture of coat all through the pictures, so I wonder, might it be the same with f1 goldendoodles?

does anyone predict with accuracy on G'doodles?

Maureen, i do know that just with my breeder's GD's and ones i know here in rochester ny from other breeders that are fleece coats none are shedders
BUT i do know when peanut blew her puppy coat OMG it was horrendous but stopped after 2.5mos
Peanut is a f1 GD and so is Beau but his coat is different than peanut's
silky fleece with possible hair mix in rear part? hard to tell with him as he's majorally blowing puppy coat right now

I have heard of one f1 gd shedding and stopped at 2yrs of age
Max is f1 Ld who is almost a nonshedder now at 19mos

You are comparing apples to apples at this point with all the different options. Napa is an australian multi-gen, and he's exactly what we wanted. But, now, you should get in contact with the breeders in your area, and go with testing, looks, temperament, and size.... But any of them would be great....

One more question, if anyone knows - do all puppie shed their puppy coats - even poodles, wheatons, bichons, and the other dogs that people consider hypoallergenic? About what age do they do this? I can't remember from our lab.

Thanks! Yes, I was curious if we would find fur around the house, getting into the kids' rooms.

We used to say you could knit 3 sweaters each week with the fur that came off our lab just around the house. And when she was brushed, you could probably make 6 sweaters.

Elisa all 3 of my doodles are related so all 3 started just around 6mos till they're 8 to 8.5 mos blowing puppy coat
some weeks alot other weeks hardly at all
but all dogs are different.............some blow upppy coat later and i've heard of some barely blowing any at all.

i just found that when they're blowing puppy coat daily sweeping really helps as if i let it build up for 3 to 4 days then my allergies would kick in slightly, other than that we're fine for past 16mos now
taking flonase during this period can help if it's during winter time

started with 1 and ended up with 3 doodles hahahhaa

That's interesting that they're all related. One breeder sold both labradoodles and goldendoodles?

I just want to thank everyone for their great advice! Believe it or not, we just paid the deposit of a F1B GD boy coming home April 5th! We are testing our kids around other F1B adult dogs from the same breeder on March 9th (the breeder will refund our money if there's a problem), and we're assuming based on all of our research that the testing will go great and there will be no allergies.
