I may have found you guys to late?

I have an F1 (Molly) and she sheds, but not NEARLY as much as a lab would. My daughter's F2 (Sandy) mats, but doesn't shed. I think I prefer the light shedding! Sandy is wonderful about being brushed but I can only imagine if he wasn't what a nightmare coat care would be if he wasn't.

Personality wise, I think I'd have to say I prefer my F1... She's not nearly as skittish. Sandy has been since the very beginning. Of course these are just the personalities of my two... I know other multigens who are as social as Molly, and I know F1's who are a little skittish. Just depends Smile

IN my experience the look of the coat has nothing to do with shedding or not, a wirey look can shed or no a wavy coat can shed or no
it all depends on where the genes fall with each individual puppy
in fact that goes for whatever generation ,,,these are afterall hybrids

Denver's coat at 4 months was very silky
and short. From that it changed texture and became courser
with a few waves in some areas but never "grew longer"
if that makes sense.

Max a F1 labradoodle ...sheds minimally but from what i hear here and also know of my neighbor's F1 LD stopped at age 2 Shocked

MAX F1 LD ...OH his coat is getting a tad longer now at 17mos old

Max again....and Peanut a f1 GD fleece coat NON SHEDDING

The chocolate pup looks like my Cinnamon did when she was a pup. She lightened a little to a soft reddish brown color, her name fits her well. We named her for her nose, it's a pretty cinnamon color. I guess she grew into it!

She does shed a little, but not nearly as much as a regular lab would. If we kept her brushed out every day she probably wouldn't, but I'm not that diligent. She's easy to bathe and dries quickly.

Concerning hair growth/matting...Dex (F1B) grows really fast and matts easily - we wind up getting him groomed every 8-10 weeks. Kirby (F1) also has hair that grows fairly fast and barely matts at all. I personally love the fluffy/wavy look of the F1Bs, but the upkeep for the hair is more difficult/expensive. Of course this is just my experience w/2 doodles and every dog is different Smile

I agree with the others - go for temperment first. We were really naive when we got Dex and were really most concerned w/shedding potential and if the puppy was cute (also wanted a lighter dog). We got lucky that Dex is really playful/fun/happy go lucky, but we really didn't ask much about temperment.

I am so sorry about you loss, but I do believe that you will heal faster once you have a new puppy...not that you will ever forget or stop loving your dear companion, but you will begin to laugh again and that is always good!
I echo what others are saying regarding coats.
In my experience, F1s shed...not all, but most. HOWEVER they don't shed nearly as much as the Lab or Golden Retriever. And, in my experience, after the first year, the shedding slows down a lot!
Looking at the pups you posted, I would say that the brown pup looks like a shedding coat and they black looks fleece, so I would (based solely on these two pics) select the black pup.
There is so much more to consider than the coat, however. Please find a reputable breeder and research the ways your breeder can and should help you.
I hope that this new experience will be a life-long, loving one!

OMG!! You guys are terrific! So much wonderful advice and the pictures of your doods are awesome!!
I have to really re read every single post here and try to reply to each, but that would be difficult right now because BOGIE IS HERE.............and he wants me!
I'm in doodle love!
I got the little black one on Tuesday. I cannot even believe the temperament and how smart!!!
He even let us sleep 4 hours straight last night!! WOOHOO!!
Also, when we pull on his coat, no shedding yet, but he's a baby.......we'll see.
My sweet Casey our Springer, shed so much that a little won't hurt at all.

On the flip side, this is a bittersweet moment in my life. Little Bogie is soooo good! It's like he's truly trying to help me heal.
Casey LOVED to be in the bathroom when I took a bath. He was with me everywhere. Yesterday, little Bogie thrilled me! He laid by the tub just like Casey did and rested his little muzzzle on my flip flop...... He is soooo sweet! Casey can never be replaced, but that's okay. I'm not trying to replace.....I just want my new babe to be wonderful.....and guess what........he is! It will just get better each day!

Once I'm really a doodle mom....I'll be replying more to all of you. I just want you to know I'm not trying to make this all about me, okay?...........just had a rough 3 weeks and now a new pup! Kind of got my hands full.

Hope to have some pics soon.........Bogie's not into posing yet..............lol
