I must have missed a thread Diane. What kind of tablecloth are you working on?
I love doing home improvement projects even though my skills will never match my ideas or ambition. LOL

We actually built a padded headboard for our bed today. I've been asking dh for months to help me with it, and he'd kept putting it off... so today was my birthday and I talked him into it. I made sure to take full advantage while I could. Not only did I get it done, I used a floral fabric on it that he'd normally have objected to! Sometimes it pays to time things just right.

Happy birthday, Tink!

It was it was your birthday
Not the pickle's or the pear's
Not the beaver's or the bear's
It was it was your birthday
Hope it was a happy one!

Diane, I've never made a tablecloth but I'm trying to teach my granddaughter and daughter-in-law to knit. Friday gd had no school and I got her to clean out her toy closet because she kept leaving the door open and Chouette would be found chewing a Groovy Girl dress or, most recently, a plaster head from a small figurine! I think she viewed it as her backup toybox. So in straightening up we found a knitting kit that I'd bought her for Christmas last year and she wanted to try it out. You can imagine how frustrating it was for a ten-year-old to master that skill! She kept wanting to give up. But she finally got it, although she still isn't holding the thread correctly. Then my d-i-l reminded me that she'd like to learn, too, so yesterday we had a knitting class. I ran to Michael's first for some yarn and needles and then they came over for lunch and a knitting session. It was almost harder for my d-i-l than for my gd! At one point I was rolling a ball of yarn and suggested to gd that she help her stepmom, who was in a muddle. Gd was so proud she could do that!

I knit Continental style, having been taught by my Hungarian grandmother, so I found a book at Michael's with diagrams for my "students". Now we're all working on scarves. Odd, I wasn't having trouble with my carpal tunnel syndrome through all this until I cast on my own scarf, by myself, last night and started working on it! That's why I stopped knitting in the first place. But you do sometimes get the urge to create something useful, don't you?

Are we going to see photos of the tablecloth?

Leslie

Leslie,
The skill is not in the hands. Wink
And,
When the rest of the body and mind are engaged with that skill,
PARTICULARLY from inspiring moments like yours with your gd and d-i-l,
the hands will follow suit and,
I'd bet you wouldn't feel the pain.
Wink Smile
THANK YOU for sharing that story with us!! Smile Smile

Diane,
Whip it out,
everyone wants to see
and hear about this..
tablecloth.
Wink Wink

TINK:

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
You have really been blessed---it certainly shows in your pictures,
and may the upcoming year only continue to bring you MORE!!
Cheers to you!!
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

i've made flannel baby blankets in the past almost like a 3 piece quilt. I cannot do patterns on a sewing machine ...i either have an "idea" of what i want or see something and then try to make it.
Diane, here i was dying to ask you how to do a tablecloth cause i have a LONG dining room table...care to give me any advice Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks all!

I even got to put up a floral pattern (which DH normally would veto) since it was MY birthday treat. LOL It's definitely the most "girlie" thing in the whole house.
We used a sheet of plywood, then put foam padding and a couple of layers of batting inside and attached it directly to the wall; so it will be comfy to lean against to read or watch tv.

The next project in there is to get a bunch of white wood shelves up for my vase collection and replace the ugly ceiling light over the foot of the bed with a cute little crystal chandelier I picked up. I have only the one blue wall in there, but wanted it to bring out the blue in the fabric. I have mostly white with other colors from that fabric accented through out the room. So I'm finally getting the comfy-cottage bedroom I've been wanting!

With that fabric, I'll have a taste of spring even with winter coming. Wink

Maybe . . . I'm making it for a table at the lake house, so only if it fits . . . Shocked At 2:00am my husband said, "Hey hon, do you want some help?" Question Question Rolling Eyes No, thanks, "hon", let's go to bed . . . sheesh!!! Well, at least he asked!!!
