I have the Dyson DC14 Animal vac... I absolutely ADORE it! They aren't supposed to clog, but the rare times it has happened it wasn't because of dog fur, but because of the fuzz from destuffed toys. But even THAT isn't a hard clog to fix because all the parts are easy to get to. The hose is amazing and stretches all the way up my tall staircase.
And because everything is so easily washable, you don't get that old bag smell that older vacuums tend to get...
JMO - I love my dyson! Check out any of my pictures that were taken in my living room... most of them have the dyson in the background!

Hmmmm . . . we do have a Dyson and love it! We bought ours at Sam's Club and it wasn't that much more than any other good vac. Not only does it work really good but it's light weight and very easy to manauver into tight places. Don't know how well it would tidy-up after nine cats . . . _________________ Diane (and Dakota)

| Cooper2mom wrote: | Sue I have also been curious about the Dyson. I've been holding back a bit merely based on the price. I was very interested in the handheld as Cooper drags in a lot of leaves and such into our sunroom. So I broke down and bought it. It's the Root6 model I believe (it's the only hand held they have.) But based on this little powerful unit, I'll be running up to my local Target to buy the big one! It's wonderful. This handheld is particularly great to run around, pick up odds and ends and then you're done. When I sweep the room Cooper thinks it's a game and it turns into quite the ordeal. The little vacuum quells that!
So anyway.....long winded way of saying I'd buy one (and will very soon.) |
I read on their site that the handheld only has a 6 minute run time - how long does it take to recharge it? I'd love a handheld for my stairs and a few spots that a reg vac are hard to reach with _________________

I was considering a Dyson and looked up reviews on the web. It seems that the Kenmore was the top rated and about $200 cheaper. We are on our way to Sears on Saturday for our new vacuum.

Mary, once you've done your initial longer charge it doesn't take hardly any time at all to recharge. (I've only had to do it once that way because I was neglectful.....) I can pick up a LOT of stuff off the floor and couch in 5 minutes! _________________ Kathy and Cooper |

I too have a Dyson, it's not the Animal one but the yellow model. I love it it always does a good job, oh except it doesn't like picking up cheerios I have to stomp on them and then Vaccum! It's easy to empty no worries about running out of bags. _________________ Pip & Rich, Dougie, Rose, Dekker the Doodle and Ruby the red cat. |

Question: how well does they dyson hold up with dog hair as Max sheds light fuzz balls.....and how is it on hard floors versus wool rugs?
OH when you are using it, does the air blow up at you? i have one son with bad asthma
and DAVE here does most of the vacumming now
I do the daily sweeping and weekly mopping.
the1missp....you sound like me hahhahaa i used to do things like that _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

Works well on dog fuzz and on hardwood floors! No worries here (about the dyson anyway). _________________ Pip & Rich, Dougie, Rose, Dekker the Doodle and Ruby the red cat. |

Thank you soooooooooo much
My mom last year bought me the little Electrolux at Sears cause it's lightweight and i smashed 4 discs back in 2002 ...so i can't bend alot nor pick up much weight. Great vacuum but sucks with rugs hahahaa or should i say doesn't pick up really well _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

Check consumer reports...
The Consumer Reports top-rated upright vacuum cleaners are:
* Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922
* Hoover WindTunnel 2 U8311-900
* Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 36932
http://shopping.msn.com/content/shp/?ctid=184
We looked at the Dyson, but the Kenmore Progressive was less money and it works great.

If you are going to spend the money invest in an Electrolux. In the forty plus years I remember my Mom cleaning she had only TWO Electrolux vacuums .... canisters both. Her first one never did quit, and we used it in the basement! The second on was just about to give up the ghost when we sold the house ... it was at least 32 years old!
Mom was a very thrifty lady ... but when it came to vacuums she had to have an Electrolux! My sister is the same way and has owned two in 28 years and I am heading in that direction ... am just waiting for the current one to quit! |
which MODEL did you get??????????????????????
I am in need of a good vacuum canister OR upright with floor attachement
i get sandy stuff and max's fuzzies .........they fill up bag quickly depending on time of year
I can't afford $300 + though
so if you don't mind i am reopenign this discussoin
i've heard pro's and cons on bagless.
PS I am really hard on vacuums as in past i used to vacuum daily
now it's 2 to 3 times a week...i like clean floors when possible due to allergies _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut
