Well, for those that have been following the sad story of my friend's cancer diagnosis, we had dinner with Jerry, Janet's husband, last night--the day after her surgery. The three of us had a wonderful evening.
To condense: Jerry and Janet are going at this with great attitudes--very positive, but in a realistic way. For example, when Janet’s surgeon asked her if she had any final questions or concerns before surgery, she said, “Yes. I have a question that I think is probably very important. Did you have a good night last night?” Her surgeon laughed and confessed that he doesn’t normally discuss his sex life with his patients, but last night happened to have been very good!!! They then advanced into the surgery room with smiles.
Jerry and Janet are exploring advanced, experimental treatments, as well as holistic treatments, and intend to try whatever might extend Janet’s life at a quality level. Financing is not an issue. Barring any breakthroughs, however, Janet probably has, at best, 6 months. Remember, she was diagnosed 10 days ago, with the only symptom being constipation . . .
Last night, I asked Jerry not to hesitate to ask me to do anything that would benefit Janet. Darn that Jerry--he always calls my bluff! He said, “OK, Diane, I’ll take you up on that. Janet loves Jeff Gordon so something personal from Jeff would be perfect. “
Geeezze, Janet, why couldn’t you have obsessed over an underdog???? THAT would have been much easier!!!
Gene’s (my DH) default solution is to contact Gordon through his Website or NASCAR, but I KNOW that’s not what Jerry is talking about. Jerry wants Janet to get something very personal from Jeff Gordon before she dies; and for some unknown reason, he has bestowed this little task upon me . . . . probably because he knows that I will stop at nothing to do this final thing for his beloved Janet . . .
Sooooo, my wonderful "NAS"Doodle family, you are the first hope:
Does somebody know somebody that knows somebody that knows Jeff Gordon? I intend to keep asking this question of anyone and everyone until I hear a YES!
I need to do this for Janet. I need your help. If you think you might be able to help, please pm me.
Thank you again, and again for your constant help and understanding . . . _________________ Diane (and Dakota)

Thanks everyone, very much1 I don't know what I'm looking for. I don't think it matters, just something to HER from HIM, ackkowledging that she is a great fan and maybe recognizing her condition and sending a prayer?? A postcard handwritten by him? I don't really know; I open. _________________ Diane (and Dakota)

Diane, I will try to think of something...
My brother was hospitalized, many years ago after a very bad accident...he was paralyzed...at that time, Tanya Tucker's sister (Lacosta, for those old time country music fans) was playing at the local county fair...someone got word to her about my brother and his situation, mentioning that he was a huge fan...well, she actually CALLED him and spoke with him on the phone, then she sent him a large poster, framed and signed, along with some other items.
You just never know...getting the word to him might just be all you need to do!
Let me see if Dave has any connections...maybe you could contact sports talk radio???

Okay, Diane, here is the link to Jeff Gordon't web site...maybe you can find a way to reach him there... http://www.jeffgordon.com/home/default.sps?itype=12215
Dave said that you may need to show proof of the situation because people are all the time asking for things and then selling them on eBay...but I don't know about that...
He said that if you can reach his racing team (whichi is racing now, and winning, I might add) and that the racing team might help you...
Also he mentioned Sports Talk Radio, (680 KMBR) and he said that they have a Rod Broodks show that is solely about Nascar...that they have a part of the program where anyone on the show becomes a winner...they call it Mojo...so he said if you email Rod Brooks or find out how to get on the show, they might help.
Keep us posted! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

Other than his website and his foundation site (which says you have to go thru make a wish and is for people under 18 only ) I'm can't come up with anything, but I will keep asking around to see if anyone knows someone who knows him or one of his crew
In the meantime, prayers continuing _________________

Diane, I'm afraid I have few suggestions for you, but my prayers are with you being able to do this for your friend. I hope you're able to snag something spectacular for her!
This is a list of places that grant wishes for terminally ill people... adults as well as kids. Maybe there'd be something there?

I LOVE this group!!
You all are soooo inspiring!!!
Diane--our 2c:
1) I LOVE Jac's (Dave's) idea of contacting the radio show!!! Keep callin and keep callin....
2) I also really like the idea of contacting NASCAR directly...
3) We got a lot of race fans in the family--let me ask around for ideas/connections/directions!!
4) I'm pm'ing some other info too...
Let's ALL start to SEE this (& more) HAPPENING!!!!
Paul adds: He thinks the ideas of contacting/researching Jeff Gordon's charitable foundations is the way to go....
I STILL believe in 6 degrees of separation!!!

| We have a friend that works at the Indy Motor Speedway. I'm not sure what he can do for you, but at soon as he gets back from his yearly week long hunting trip, I'll ask him about it. |
