The temperment of the different varieties of doodles

Hi everyone! I am new to the forum and I am sooo happy to have found it! What a great resource! I am at the beginning stage of researching what type of dog would be good for our family. I know we want a Doodle" but I haven't determined which type yet. Thanks to Nancy at Doodlesville I found a ton of information regarding the differences in all the varieties regarding shedding, but I can not easily find information on the temperment differences of the doodle varieties.

There is no real difference...then again what do you mean by types?

Goldendoodles and Labradoodles temperaments are as sweet as they can be. Doesn't mattter if they're F1, F1b or multigen/austrailan as most doodles carry the same traits

Rather than temperament.,...it's the coat that varies

All of the doodles I have met here have temperments as sweet as sugar, as does my precious doodle Very Happy

Closely watching my litter of doodle puppies, I can see that some favor their poodle ancestry more and others the lab side. The poodley ones are more laid back, and the Labby types are more assertive and rambunctious. ALL are very loving, friendly, funny and intelligent. Some simply seem more driven to run and wrestle than others, and some are content just to cuddle next to you and watch the others play.

it has been my experience that the temperment of well bred doodles is closely the same. get references from the breeder you choose and speak to people that have puppies from them. I found that puppies tend to have similar personalities from certain parents. does that make sense? in other words if you are looking for a laid back doodle and you talk to 3 parents that allsay there dogs are cute but crazy I would watch out and perhaps find different parent dogs ya know! And the same goes with the other way around... if you want a high energy doodle then you wouoldnt want a dog from references that say their dog just is settled. There can be some differences in pups in the litter and breeder who hangs out with her puppies a lot will actually get to know each personality to a pretty good degree but you still want to start with good parents!

The Labradoodle's temperament is hard to beat, they are almost human like in many ways but PLEASE purchase from a breeder that knows what they are doing. Bad breeders will produce bad Labradoodles Evil or Very Mad

A good breeder will make sure that they are breeding healthy dogs with loving temperaments, therefore, producing wonderful even tempered puppies that will be healthy. Pit bulls have such a bad reputation but it is because of the breeding behind them, some people breed for that killer instinct. On the other hand, I have seen some really sweet pit bulls. Just make sure you do your homework and visit with different breeders until you find one that answers your questions and does the testing and doesn't seem to be bothered with your inquiries.

I totally agree with doing your homework to choose
a breeder. It is so important. Ask a ton of questions and then
ask a ton more. If a breeder is put off by this then move on.
I had one breeder who told me I asked too many questions for someone
who may not end up buying a dog from her and of course I told her
no problem and goodbye. I am sure there are looky loos in this business
as well but I was not one of them and she lost a sale because I asked too many questions. Embarassed

The breeder I did go with answered all my questions and would get back to me to see if I had any more questions. after about six months of talking back and forth with this breeder I bought Denver. I am sure there are a lot of people who do waste a breeders time
but i knew nothing about this breed and wanted to know a lot before I
got a puppy, so I needed a patient breeder and they are out there.

Sue the breeders Iknow appreciate someone like you asking tons of questions cause it also helps them decide if you are the right kind of person to have one of their puppies Very Happy

so to me the buyer and breeder both should ask many questions to ensure the right family is also getting the right dog! Very Happy
