Labradoodle vs. Goldendoodle

Coats aside does anyone who has experience with both Labradoodles and Goldendoodles notice any maturity differences? My DH thinks labs tend to mature and settle down at a younger age than goldens which was one of the reasons my DH was more interested in a labradoodle instead of a goldendoodle. I just wondered if anyone has noticed a difference or if adding the poodle kind of evens this out?

A goldendoodle normally matures faster then a f1 labradoodles ,.,,f1b labradoodles tend to mature faster then the first gen
F1 Labradoodles can be a bit "busy" until a later age
if you have had experiences with most labs they rarely ever mature,, Laughing

I really appreciate all the replies. We looked at some beautiful F1 labradoodles today, but the kennel conditions were less than satisfactory (another story). We're looking at F1 Goldendoodles tomorrow that are being brought up in a home environment, I think that may fit our desires better. Thanks for the help, and keep it coming!

I have never been around a Goldendoodle so can't help there. I've had 4 labs and loved all of them - all had distinctively different personalities but were all very loving.

I have never owned a golden retriever but have been around my sisters 2 goldens and a friends and they were enough to tell me I did not want a golden - they were all Very nervous dogs and shed so much heavier than my labs and their hair was very "cat like" - stuck to things much worse than my labs hair. I dont know if Goldendoodles are like that or not.

I have a F1 labradoodle and a F1 goldendoodle

Difference for me is ...Max sheds a little, Peanut (goldendoodle) except for blowing her puppy coat she does NOT shed at all.

I can PM you my photobucket site if you want so you can see the difference in coats....peanut has a shaggy look, fleece coat.

both have different personalities but share in Stealing socks and defuzzing toys.

I wonder what would the offspring of a Standard poodle and a Chesepeake Bay Retriever be like. Temperment-wise the Chesepeakes are a little more stubborn and hard headed then the Labs or Goldens and they have a rougher coat as they are considered the hardiest of the Restriever classes.

Ohhh I sooo wanted to do that cross!!!
but,, chessies have alot of cancer running thru the breed as well as other health issues,, on top of not being the most biddable dogs out there, i decided against it cause color was the only reason i would want to do it,,not a good enough reason in my opinion Exclamation

although too many breeders choose a breed to use for color or to get size, effects more health issues then i really care to tackle

Oh, on the topic of different crosses...
I had an email from someone looking for a boxerdoodle!
I can't even imagine what that would be like. LOL
Not something I'd care to try I don't think.

One that has kind of peaked my interest for a couple of reasons is the bordoodle... a border collie poodle cross. I like the size and coat of borders and they're number one in intelligence. BUT having had several of them over the years, I know they also have extremely strong herding drives, need a lot of exercise and do have their own health issues.

Actually I saw a boxerdoodle and they look really nice. They resemble an Airedale Terrier a bit when their hair is trimmed. Their tails are often cropped like a boxer's. Boxer's also have a very sweet disposition. I was inquiring a breeder about one but she had none available at the time.

Personally i think all breeders should remember the reason the doodles were created in the first place, for service and therapy dogs in mind
they should be easily trained, from proven breeds that hold the desired traits, boxers are not known for service dogs, i love border collies in fact used to train them for herding trials, they are not a breed i would choose to use in service or therapy,not many make good pets for children, i choose the australian shepherd to breed aussiedoodles because they have a off button ,and i used to do therapy work with my aussies years ago when i bred them, border collies really dont do well in that type of work,,
unfortunatly , some people are just throwing a poodle together with another breed thinking,,,"ohhhh this will make me some money,",not really thinking about any goals for the results of a breeding,
I see this type of discussion so often, and in the back ofmy mind,,i think,,WHY? has anyone truly research the history of any of these breeds,,what is the purpose,,

I know someone who bred a Chessapeake Retriever to a Poodle.... Her reason for not continuing was the temperment, I think. She's in Nebraska, tho if someone's interested.

I also know someone who has bred a German Shorthair Pointer, to a poodle, I believe. He can't believe how great those dogs hunt!

Well said Nancy! And that's why the boxerdoodle just seemed "off" to me.
The Bordoodle too... for the reasons I mentioned. They're a great dog if what they are is what you're in need of... but they have their own specific purpose and it's not really the most compatible with the labradoodle purpose.
