I had a few of the breeders here asking about the info on my web site. Mainly questions about if I was going to list a health warranty. Which was kind of funny because as they were asking I was researching . After a few weeks of research I have got it on my web site and updated some other info also so if you got a minute take a look and let me know what you think

Hi Brenda, your dogs are beautiful! I am not an expert or a breeder but the consequences of not neutering do not seem strong enough. Forfeiture of the health warranty will not deter some unscrupulous people from breeding a beautiful dog to earn more money. I'm not sure how other breeders handle this, but I do remember reading about a breeder starting legal action to have the dog returned to her because neutering had not been done, I think. Maybe some breeders can chime in here....

I'd have to agree that the penalty for failing to neuter is a bit short on "teeth," in my opinion. Once they decide the dog is probably healthy, they might decide to take their chances on the warranty.

Like many doodle breeders, I neuter my pets before they go home.

If you are not comfortable with that option, I've seen other breeders charge breeder prices for pups that have not been neutered. This can be hard to collect, of course, and you'd have to be prepared to take legal action, which is time consuming and a hassle.

Take into consideration the breeder pup price as compared to the limits of Small Claims court in your area. You can sue for the Small Claims maximum without hiring a lawyer, and the judgement comes down after a brief court session in which both parties present their case to a judge. Note that you now have a judgement, but have Still not collected any money! If the buyer doesn't pay the judgement, back to court you go...

When I was first "shopping" for Jonah, A few breeders charged the breeders fee up front to all, with a refund of that fee to be returned upon proof of altering the pet. Just an idea.

I used to spay/neuter before they went home...but I had one of my dear puppies die...I can't face that again...so I have a VERY strong spay/neuter contract...and I WILL enforce it. Yes, it could be costly...but it is important to me.
I also have a clause that I will refund up to $125 when they show me proof of spay/neuter... I don't add it into my prices, because I was paying that before...when I had the spayed/neutered...even more...so it is actually cheaper for me to refund part of the fee and it gives the owner an incentive too.
