Well faithful Murphy fans. Murphy is now offically part of our family. Eric, Kiya, and I went down thins afternoon and adopted him without a hitch. He now sports a blue collar and happily crunches on a rawhide behind me. So although we could have used the $200 for other things, we hope karma will smile down, God will provide, and Murphy will always be happy with us. Very Happy

There was a reason you and your family were suppose to be in that store and Murphy is his name! Congratulations.

Congratulations on adopting Murphy. I have read through this whole string of posts, and I laughed and smiled through the whole thing! You were meant to be Murphy's new family! Congratulations!

Dying for a Murphy update - havent seen one in a couple of days.

I notcied you had a concern about Murphy mouthing (appropriate with a baby). This may not be politically correct, but a stern NO, pop on the snout, down/stay command will work. After a few of these, he'll know its not appropriate behavior. But be sure to give him something he's allowed to chew on to ease the urge. This worked for our giant doberwoman.

Lizziesmom, thanks for the tip, actually laying a hand over his muzzle and saying "no bite" worked great. We are still working with him, we found out through his paperwork he is only 7 months old, so it explains alot. Also now that hes an offical member of the family and he is feeling much better from his respitory infection we are seeing almost a diffrent doodle. He is very energetic, has a mind of his own, when we try to get him to settle down and listen he hops and jumps around a few times before we have his attention. He does the doodle 500 at night and well any other time of the day. There have been some puddles on the floor, and he seems to have a thing for potatoes. He likes to chew them up. So we have our crate set up and I am doing crate traing for the more serious offenses and he goes in there when we leave, but not at night. For lesser offenses that I have to have his attention for ie around the baby I have found that getting his attention with a squirt bottle, giving him a command, then rewarding for what I want is effective for imdiate results in situations where I cant wait for him to settle down or get on his level. I would say things are still going well, just fitting it all together and learning daily how to teach a smart dog.

ethridg3....glad to have an update and hear things are going better with Murphy and the whole family. The doodle 500 run is hysterical and my whole family looks forward to it daily. we just stand out of max's way and let him rip thru. Laughing
Happy to hear the NO bite is working for you Smile that is a great accomplishment, and the water squirt works? wow!!!

our Max tries to catch water so we can squirt him---doesn't work Rolling Eyes

I can't wait to hear how Murphy progresses and settles in with you and your family .... doodles provide so much love and laughter.

ps wanna a mr potatoe head for Murphy for xmas? Wink

Dont you dare annmarie! He already has a thing for plastic Im trying to break. And dont want him fighting with Kiya in a few years over hers! Laughing

Yeah, we are learning to just get out of his way when the doodle 500 happens, however it doesnt just last for a few minutes with him, and Akisu likes to antaginize him so then they start to play and it just goes on and on and on. First with him running around, then with her attacking him, then him attacking her, then him chasing her, then her chasing him, then they start all over again in the living room running in circles through the kitchen. Well you get the picture, only it happens with a 55lb black dog and a 5lb black cat... Rolling Eyes

you'll find out that the less fuss you make over it the shorter the doodle 500 lasts Wink this has been my experience with Jonah anyway.

Murphy is only 7 months old, so Im sure it will start getting shorter the older he gets older, and like I said it isnt us thats making a fuss, its the cats. Not much I can do about that. Besides as long as the baby isnt sleeping it doesnt bother me, just makes me wish for a bigger house. Very Happy
