| Hi Everyone,I,we are thrilled to of found this site,we have been looking for a pup in our area for some time now and I found a few on the Kijiji site,my first attempt ending up being a time waster/scammer,no pups,I posted my finding on the comment forum(wrong phone# posted),and the responses have been unbelievable!!I have had so many postings telling me that ALL Labradoodle breeders are irresponsible,Labradoodles are mutts, thats why shelters are filled with them, totally untrue,we have looked in every shelter, rescue ,SPCA within a 200 mile area, and there is not a Labradoodle to be found, the negative feed back that I have received has left us wondering if all pure breed breeders feel this way,or are these people the exception to the rule?To me the Labradoodle is the perfect pet,I have severe allergies and I could probably live with this breed, with little or no allergie problems, the temperment makes them a great family dog,I we are looking forward to any feed back !! |

Hi..welcome to the forums!
Yes their are a lot of negative people. I have had people say mean things to me and im sure other people here have.
Yes their are labradoodles in shelters, just like their are hundreds of other different types of dogs. I dont agree that shelters are filled with labradoodles, thats dumb! And I dont think the ones that are there were dumped because of being a doodle, its more of a choice from the family.
And ALL labradoodle breeders are not irresponsible. Im sure their are shady ones out there, just like with any breed. I really like the breeders that come on this forum. They are very helpful and good people to talk too.
Labradoodles are great dogs. And to make a long story short. I had a doodle too and recently had to give him up after my divorce. He was the best dog I've ever had. Everything about him was just so perfect. His new owners stay in contact with me and they have continued to keep telling he's such a great dog, and they are very pleased. If you read the different topics here you can truely see how much everyone loves their doodles and everyone has such wonderful things to say about them. |

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of breeding dogs! Sorry you had to have such an unbecoming welcome over on another forum. In general (and I do know purebred breeders who are as kind as can be to me) there are a lot of vocal purebred breeders that are borderline hateful and most certainly hurtful. This discussion could go on, but I know thats not why you are here! You want the worlds most perfect dog the Labradoodle LOL!
Here are some important things to know because choosing a breeder is incredible important. As stated above there are some excellent breeders on this site, but a forum rule states we cannot advertise our own litters so my suggestion would be to look at the breeders that advertise in the section specifically designed for introducing breeders and puppy parents!
http://labradoodle-dogs.net/allfeatured.php
http://labradoodle-dogs.net/directory.php
but just because a breeder is there please still do your homework..... ask questions, lots of them. We have probably heard it before so dont be shy!!
A guarantee is a must and watch how it is worded. They are not all the same so compare them. Tested parents are another sign of a responsible breeder. Get references. Talk to owners of previous litter puppies.
Get referrals from breeders. I find myself referring to other breeders I have met that have an excellent program when I do not have the puppy a prospective parent is looking for.
There are Labradoodles in the shelters and depending on where you are they are hard to find or sometimes receive many applications. Shannon at http://www.poomixrescue.com/ is an excellent contact to find a Labradoodle being rehomed.
As far as being a mutt all dogs started from one, and if I remember correctly the difference between a poodle and a bulldogs DNA (or any two breeds) is .15 out of 100.00. Hardly an earthshattering difference All breeds of dogs are derived from a mixture of different breeds. Plain and simple. Some have been around longer than others, plain fact.
There are different generations of Labradoodles and technically when all is said and done a Labradoodle will be 6th generation or higher, but as this breed is still in its infancy so to speak foundation dogs are needed to assure health and so you will find many F1 (first) and F1b or F2 (second) generation dogs at this time. You can find other generations as well, but those to seem to be most prevelant. If you havent seen the standard I suggest a quick peek. http://www.ilainc.com/IALA/LabradoodleBreedStandard.html
With allergies I highly suggest an F1B (or perhaps higher) F1B's are very successfully placed in homes with people with allergies and asthma. I have two puppies from my last litter in those exact circumstances and the families can not be more pleased.
Its nice to meet you by the way and welcome. I think you will find this forum a very friendly and informative place to be! |

Hello welovedogs, welcome!
You have received some excellent comments here and I would like to support everything that they have said.
What you will find is that, unfortunately, prejudice is common...not only among pure breeders against breeders of mixed lines, but also among the various "types" of mixed breeds! It is silly, of course, and I chalk it up to serveral factors:
Greed
Jealousy
Misinformation
Unfounded, but strong prejudice (the kind that NO ONE ever understands)
All of these are damaging...but, what I have also found is that the more people who become acquainted with Labradoodles, the more of a following these wonderful dogs receive.
Poodle breeders often question why people would want a mixed breed when a Poodle holds every trait that the Labradoodle people are searching for...and, until I owned a Poodle, I would have laughed at that one! I always thought that Poodles were pampered, poofy, silly-looking, spoiled brats with no personality. (Sorry everyone...but that truly is what I thought.) But, I bought a standard Poodle to breed back to my Labradoodles and, frankly, I have to agree with the Poodle people...the Poodle is a perfect dog! (It's the Poodle OWNERS that have problems! LOL)
Still, there is something very special about the mix between Labs (and Goldens, for that matter) and Poodles. You really can't miss when you take two of the most prized breeds and mix them...because (and here is what sets Labradoodles/Goldendoodles apart, in my opinion) there is something very special with this mix.
Speaking from my personal experience, I find that the calm, sweet, LOVING even-tempered, funny Poodle traits combine well with the loyal, intelligent, friendly, mischievious, playful Lab/Golden. The resulting puppies have the most wonderful mix of personalities and coat qualities.
Add in the hybrid vigor (which pure breeders scoff at, because they have been inbreeding for so long) you get a very healthy, happy, successful breed. Like it or not, this breed is just too perfet to ignore!
Here is an interesting link if you want to learn more about hybrid vigor and why introducing different breeds is a healthy practice:
http://vein.library.usyd.edu.au/links/Mcgreevy.pdf
There are many, many more resources...and of course many arguments in both directions. My main argument is that I have personally experienced both pure breeds (Lab/Poodle) and I do love them...very much, but the Labradoodle mix has shown traits that I adore, and that are not found in each of the other individual breeds.
Most people are won over if they spend any time at all with a Labradoodle.
So, ignore the nay-sayers and follow your heart. If you love a Labradoodle now, then you will adore them once you live with them!
The important thing, as mentioned above, is to find a good breeder. That can't be said too many times. Please check the archives of this forum for lots of great info on selecting a quality breeder and avoiding a puppy mill.
If I can help, feel free to contact me via private message (PM button below) and I'll be happy to answer any questions that I can.
Again, welcome! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

| Hello-and welcome !! Call a Labradoodle what ever you want-mutt-hybrid-whatever!! The main thing to know is they are wonderful dogs--smart, sweet, funny, affectionate, social and the list goes on and on. We adopted two doodles (2 year old siblings ) a few months ago and we are totally hooked!! We are lifelong dog lovers and have had many beloved dogs over the years-some purebred-some not. There is something special about a doodle. Good luck in your search--you won't regret owning a Labradoodle.---Kathy, Lizzie and Louie |
