|

Hi,
We just got a larbardoodle. We have had him for one week, he is 9 weeks old. (I will send a picture once I figure out how to do it on this web site).
Anyway, the breeder instructed us to feed him twice a day, for 15 minutes, all he can eat duringt that time. If he does not eat during that time to take it away. She said he may not eat the first week he is with us and to also wet his food. Well, he will eat the entire 15 minutes! He is a little piglet. So then I changed it to three times a day and 2/3 rds of a cup each time. I read this in my puppy book by the munks of New Skete. Well, he is now 13 lbs. Is this normal? I am not sure of his weight when we got him but he is definetly hearvier. Should I be feeding him more or less?
Thank you for any advice.

your food will probably have a suggested amount on the bag for the puppy's weight and age (probably an amount total for the day, so divide into the 3 meals). That is a prettygood guideline... our Sammy is a little skinny since she is growing so fast so our vet said to stay at the higher end of the guide.
What are you feeing your puppy?
and yes, you should pull the food up after 15 mins or so, so the puppy leanrs to eat during mealtime. He is not going to let himself go hungry, so if he doesnt eat much, he will learn very fast to eat if he is hungry! Also puppies go through different period of growth so they may eat and sleep more and less during different weeks of their development. This is normal variation. _________________ ~Kelly~

Hi,
We are feeding him IAMs food for puppies for large dogs. Both the vet and breeder recommended that. So it sounds like we are OK. The package range is big but the max is 2 2/3 cups and he is not getting more then that. He must just be going through a growth spurt.
Thank you!!

Hi Debra, My Doodle Murphy is 9 weeks old today and weighs 12 lbs as well. He eats twice a day and I give him about 1.5 cups of Iams puppy food for large dogs as well. He seems pretty happy with that. He is a great little guy. Jamie _________________ Jamie
