I can't believe he has been here over a week!!! We have changed his name from Midnight to Starbuck, the kennel cough is almost gone and he has fattened up quite a bit. Now we just got to keep him at a health weight and not go overboard. We are hoping to put Starbuck into puppy classes starting 4/9 and since I'll have a new baby by then, my hubby will have to take him. This is my way of getting these two to understand each other better. The Hubby only knows how to rough house with Starbuck and Starbuck only knows how to jump and nip the Hubby. Hope my plan works. <grin> |

Hi Anne, I am so happy that Starbuck is doing so well! (And that he is so loved!)
This is happy news!
One thing I would like to mention, not to put a damper on things, but because of your new baby (congratulations, by the way!) ... these dogs can grow pretty big and they play with such abandon (as you have noticed) and some people on this forum have had problems with their pups as they grow because they jump on their children and play too roughly...soooo, my concern is that by allowing Starbuck to jump and play rough with adults, he will be confused when he is not able to do the same with a child...I know how much fun it is to play with them and how much your husband seems to enjoy the play time...so I just wanted to mention this for your consideration.
I know that you will all enjoy the puppy classes, it is always a fun time for the family and puppy to bond...your hubby will LOVE the classes! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

Starbuck definitely leaves a smile on our faces!
Jac, thanks for the heads up on the rough play. I have been working on helping Starbuck understand that our 21 month old is off limits but its hard for him to resist sometimes. I have been doing the tether training and hope the Hubby training…oops ..I meant puppy training classes will help calm things down for when the newest wee one arrives and starts to get mobile. It’s true that I am crazy for taking on this challenge at this point in life, but our Starbuck completes us and is soooooo worth all the coming nips, pounces, laughter and tears. Also we have all you wonderful people out there in Doodle land to advise and support us when we are ready to pull our hair out in frustration. I couldn’t do it with out my “Doodle Family”. Thank you all again for your past and future advise to come. AnneG |

Hubby training! LOL I like that!
How is everything going?
Sorry to be slow to respond, I've been up to my eyeballs in studies! One week to go...then a short break and more studies. August can't come soon enough!
But, I do eventually catch up on the forum news...that is an important thing, to check on my friends and their families, human and canine. _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

Happy to say all is well. Today is my first day back on the forum since having the baby on 3-31-06 <grin> Starbuck has settled in and he and Hubby went to their 1st class this past Sunday. They came back from class and tried to convince me that they flunked the admittance exam and were not permitted back, but then the truth came out that they were the class clowns and actually kind of liked it. The trainer said that Starbuck was very smart but still very much a puppy and lots of patients and practice would be needed. I am not sure if that was for Starbuck or Hubby. <grin> |

Ha! I can just imagine!
Hey, congratulations on the birth of your baby! Boy or girl? I'll bet your older child is having a grand time with baby AND a puppy!
Throw in Disneyland and life is prefect! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |
