I wish I had a video...
The parade in our village goes right past our house so we take out our lawn chairs and sit and watch local politicians, baseball teams, dog groups, etc. walk by. I try not to fight the children for the candy but I did net a few tootsie rolls this morning.
I took Charlie for some play time in the park so he would run off his excess energy before the parade. When we came back to our chairs, a family with a lab and an apricot doodle were sitting next to us! Charlie was so happy and these dogs were very well behaved. On the other side, a family sitting on a blanket with a big bag of cheese popcorn became a problem for us. Charlie was snarfing up all the popcorn dropped on the ground. In fact, he was single mindedly focused on that popcorn. He also discovered the box of crackers that they had in their bag. I don't think we are quite ready for the Canine Good Citizen test yet. LOL!
The best part, however, was near the end of the parade. There was a number of fire trucks and emergency vehicles all blasting their sirens. Charlie decided to join in. He threw his head back and howled right along with them It was quite a sight! We'd never heard him howl before. He's usually pretty meek.
Unfortunately, he will have to stay home tonight when he go to see the fireworks. They don't allow dogs on the school grounds where we watch them.
Hope everyone else is having a great holiday!

I've been trying to get him to repeat his performance. We only live 2 blocks from a fire station so sirens are not unusual. I'm afraid he will need the entire fleet to be able to "sing" again.
