Totally off LD's - but for those of you who have web sites, do you do them your self or do you have them done by a pro? If you do them yourself, what program do you use? Is it hard or just time consuming? I'm knowledgeable about computers but I'm far from being a geek.
The reason for the question, I have a home based business (doll restoration) and business has slowed to an almost stop. I know part of it is economy, but I'm suspecting that some is due to the Internet advertising by other doll doctors, not that I begrudge them anything, but hey!
Of course, slow business means I have more time for travel (to Cincy ) but it also means no money coming in.
Thanks! |

I use the Dreamweaver program. If there is something extra special I want & don't know how to do, I bug my teen......the little HTML queen
Also.....if you put choice words in your "meta tags", words that people use in their search engines, this will bring you up higher on the results.
Jac has great meta tags! When I was first researching Labradoodles in Northern CA, her web was always up there....
BTW....My site is hosted by Godaddy.com. I noticed that there is a site builder on there. _________________ Judi,Tuesday& Marley(and little Reba too!)

My husband does that for a living. We don't have our own site but he does alot of others. Well not just him the company he works for. It is a small company only five employees.

I really don't want to hire anyone because I know of a couple of businesses that have trouble with their webmasters with updating their sites. I would probably find the wrong person to do it.
What is the difference between Homestead and Dreamweaver in quality of the site? Are there things you can't do with Homestead that you can with Dreamweaver or vise versa? |

Dreamweaver is a computer program you purchase. It is easy once you learn it....you don't really need to know HTML, well.... I guess you do occasionaly when you get "bugs" you need to figure out
Sounds like Homestead would probably be better for you. I suspect that Homestead charges a fee for that, and you have to host on their site?
I pay about $50 a year for Godaddy.com to host me with no advertisements, $8-9 a year for my domain name. I don't know how that compares to Homestead.
I have seen a few web sites on this forum by Homestead, and they look very professional! _________________ Judi,Tuesday& Marley(and little Reba too!)

I also used Homestead, they have wonderful costumer service as well. I had my website up for more than two years now and I love how I am in control of things I want to put in there anytime I want. |

I do my own site which is actually in a blog format with WordPress. I have a friend who designs sites professionaly, so she helped me set it up and I've managed it since. I do daily updates, constantly adding and changing photos, and text about what's going on with the dogs and find it very easy to use.
I bought my domain name through Go Daddy, use midPhase, and Statcounter. Even when I don't have pups available I average about 130 views per day. I get many of them through Google, MSN, AOL, and Yahoo search engines. What really helped me to get picked up by them was careful keyword use.
I can give you more details if you like... don't want to write a novel here. lol
You can email me if you'd like more info. _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net
