I just got her test results emailed to me and she is negative for all 27 tests. YAY.
Now on to the colour. Does anyone have a conversion from their test # to the genes. I know there is one floating around the zoo but i dont post there. It gave her the correct result for brown, ++ homozygous. I am interested in the +- heterozygous for both yellow and agouti (R86C). |

simply put it's the gene responsible for black and tan or wolf-like bi color markings for the most part. The A gene will control HOW and WHERE the color is onthe whole body of even the bands of a single strand of hair.
So that's how you end up seeing Sable, Tans, or colorings that of Border colllies, shetland sheepdogs, german shepards,or even wolves.
HOpe this helps
if you want the more techincal explaination then here's one off of LUCKYME's link
http://www.healthgene.com/canine/ar_color.asp
ps i am only half way done writing a gentics booklet for breeders
and will let you know when it's completed...i am explaining this stuff in laymans's terms as it's fascinating to me but soem say confusing to them _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

Cool Annmarie! I didn't know you were doing that, is it geared towards Labradoodles? I'll buy one!!!
I'm glad you located one of those out-of-print books!! _________________ Judi,Tuesday& Marley(and little Reba too!)

| From the table on this site http://www.labbies.com/genetics2.htm I want to know what each of the PID agouti tests are for. It would be nice to know if Hershey has A(S) or a(s). A(S) would make sense, she came from a white poodle and A(S) suppresses phaeomelanin pigment . But a(s) is supposed to be present in chocolates with red tones, and thats Hershey. Just wondering what her puppy colour possibilities would be, and what genotype of stud to select. |

Ktodd.....on VETGEN site they have a coat color section that also has genetic charting done for you
so say you take your Doodle that is bbEe and breed it to another bbEe
you then should get a litter of ¾ Brown,¼ Cream
Cream includes the reds/yellows or even Peanut who is cream with apricot tones
this is where genetic testing cannot TEST for hidden recessive genes which when both parents carry can then become dominant and expressed in a litter aka ROLL of the DICE
some genes are sex linked thus its the dam that can determine certain genetics as well ( ie: rufus polygene in true clear reds)
now bbEe crossed with a bbee gives ½ Brown, ½ Cream
now a bbEe crossed with a bbEE gives 100% brown
bbEe crossed with a BbEe gives 3/8 black, ¼ Cream,3/8 Brown
IF you want to avoid a having many blacks that 50% or more of the litter could end up w/a black coat
then you wouldn't breed
a bbEe to a BBEE (100% black), or BBEe, BbEE which can give blacks _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

With sex-link, isn't it like this...
The male can be the given, lets say red color, or carry it.
while....
The female can only be red & is not able to carry it??? _________________ Judi,Tuesday& Marley(and little Reba too!)

I'm ok with the B/E alleles...

This is the way I am leaning. I love chocolate, but want some variety too. I was just wondering if the agouti test will tell me if the cream will be light/white, or apricot/red. I know it depends on the stud too, but if Hershey has A(S) at agouti, it will lighten the red so it wouldnt be a true red and not worth the considerable time/expense to get a true red stud.
There are two agouti tests with PID and Hershey was -/- for the first one, and +/+ for the second one, but I cant find out which gene allele each test is for. |

Todd......you have to call PID regarding agouti as i am not sure
if it relates to
AA and aa along with say at or ay
IF you call , Rick will get you an answer
and TODD usually the only way to get TRUE gun dog red
means both parents are red....which deepens/richens its red color
as the dog ages
versus Many Reds fading with age
me? i love all the colors but unless you find a DAM that has PID or Vetgen or Optigen DNA testing then looking at the color charts
is the only method at this point besides mating them
hopefully you'll have a dam with DNA testing that gives coat color
**********************************************
JUDI....
JUDI that statement about the dam confuses me...can you reword it?
Ok usually Dominant sex-linked genes are in males and the female even if it has a heterozygous expression ( such as Bb one dom/one recessive)
and if a female has only HOMOZYGOUS for the recessive gene
then she will determine the outcome
or here's a link and go to bottom of page which really gives a good example of sex-linked genetic inheritance
http://spear-barkennels.com/Genetics.php
ALSO coat color differs say from the sexlink genes of hemophelia(spelling)
coat color is determined by both parents but the rufus gene goes past the ee, agouti, ch (concentration) and is still being studied with no tests available yet or to the public yet.
much of the coat color is a simple mix of Dad and Mom's
but each variation or hidden genes are in a particular order/place on the alleles ...thus much of it isn't sex linked rather mutually shared
The extra complication here is that the Rufus gene is sex-linked—it is carried only on the X chromosome. A male has one X chromosome, can be red or not but carry it,
and a female has two X chromosomes, can be red, red and cream, or say the color of peanut
So
peanut could have the same genetic makeup of BBee as Beau
thus then this is why genetics goes into the other alleles and polygenes
RED /yellows are same genes as CREAM
so Beau actually has BBee/ch/ff and says no agouti which affects banded color on hair strands, thus no other color than red
soooooooo the only other gene possible is rufus
OR
both his parents are red BBee or Bbee produces 100% creams
and my breeder has had nothing but all reds/creams to-date
NO black, no brown, no whites
JUDI.........how about we PM this as I've hijacked Todd's POST
SORRY Todd.....BACK to our REGULARLY SCHEDULED TOPIC

Hello everyone! Nice to be back from our long vacation in the Philippines.
Anyway, I have also received our dogs' DNA results thru Pawsitive I.D. They have sent me an email and should receive the certificates in the mail soon.
Both Coco and Kenya are negative on the 27 tests so it's great! I will need to contact Pawsitive I.D to understand the colors as well.
Coco:Yellow-Heterozygous; Brown-Heterozygous
Kenya: Yellow-Homozygous; Agouti (R96C)-Heterozygous
Thanks,
Mhyles
