We are getting a australian ld puppy this summer and I was just wondering if you can actually tell wether they will have fleece or wool hair when they are small....

I looked at some of the amazing and fun colour changes they go through and I noticed that a few people mentioned that their hair texture changes as well.. but does the texture stay with in the same fleece/wool classification throughout these changes?

We have Australian LDs and it was obvious whether they were wool or fleece
as small puppies
This was Lucee who is a wool at 6 wks

This was Rusty who is a fleece at 4 wks

Looking at the whole litter it wasn't hard to pick the wools from the fleece.
Even at 2 wks old you could see the curls developing on the wools.
Lucee's coat has gotten a lot curlier and Rusty's has gotten a lot wavier.

There is also curly fleece though, like Jac's new puppies & a few from my litter. I believe it is more about texture & they are real shiney. Fleece feels SO silky, like running your hand through a chenile blanket, just really, really silky!

I can remember counting down the days till our puppy arrived.
Living on the breeder's webpage for another glance at your new baby.
Sometimes time seems to creep by soooo slowly.
Thanks for everyones kind comments. We think they are cute too but
then we are very prejudice...

Congratulations on your new puppy. Lots and lots of photos please.

Welcome back Julie!
I had some pictures to post, but I couldn't get imageshack to work at all...and I have tried ALL DAY!!!
This site is great for colors , if you pull down, shows hair types too.
http://www.labradoodleasd.com/ASD-CoatsandColors.htm
But as I said, I noticed 2 types of coats in my litter, 3 were silky like chenile(1 with a slight wave & 2 curly) Check out the pics of Jacs NARS, see how shiney and silky? I had posted some 6 month pics of my 2 girls that were like that with their 6 month pics, but they are not showing...are they showing for anyone else? (Why is image shack so screwed up!!)

This subjet has also been a goodie for me too. I have gone around sticking my fingers in many a poodle coat to try and figure the differences.
Hopefully since I bumped this up someone else can add... Confused

Dexter's hair is normally wavy...but he gets quite curly when wet Smile

Is it possible for doods to have more than one coat type on their body in patches? Our puppy has very silky curly fleece around her neck and chest but her butt and lower legs feels more like curly wool (much coarser), the rest of her body still has her puppy coat and feels like wavy fleece (much less curl). She is only 4 months old so I can imagine that she might fill out to one or the other? It is just so interesting...I am wondering which way she will go! She is an F1B.

Wrigley is an F1b Goldendoodle & has a very soft, wavy fleece coat. He is only 5 mos & hasn't yet shed his puppy coat. Do the same types of coats apply for Goldendoodles as Labradoodles? And when they get their adult coats do they change in the same ways? I've heard that Goldendoodles have softer coats.
