Diane, hugs and prayers going out to you! What a freak accident! Take it easy and don't try to do too much! I might look into getting a Dexa scan for bone density when you feel up to it. It should take a LOT of force to shear bone like that, I would want to make sure there is not a density issue. http://www.osteopenia3.com/dexa-scans.html Hang in there and let everyone help you!

Thanks Linda--a bone density test will happen; we already discussed it with my regular Dr. My ortho surgeon is not really concerned about that; he said if you hit anything just right, it will break!

I don't know what I was thinking but for some reason I thought I would be in a splint until I transitioned to a boot. Well, I had my first after-surgery appointment today and NOT! My splint was removed--along with 14 staples--and I now have a pretty blue cast!! Crying or Very sad AND, it will be two months from surgery before I can even put any amount of weight on my foot! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad And another month before I am walking! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad I tried to argue for a better deal but he said it would be one thing if this was just a broken ankle but a broken shaft is a different ballgame! So, poor Dakota! And my poor garden! Not to mention my poor husband! He is off to Utah for a week this coming Sunday and I can't really blame him! But in all fairness to me, I have been trying so hard to be independent and not to complain . . . AND I also feel so bad to whine at all with all the other problems going on right now; poor, sweet Bogie, Annmarie's daughter . . . I'm just glad we can all be here for each other . . . Smile

I have a titanium rod and screw both in my leg and ankle. I broke my tibia and farctured my ankle 5yrs ago. I fell on some ice. I never had a cast. I had a ACE bandage w/padding and then a week later a boot. It will get better!! I think It was 10 weeks in all. Really because of my ankle where it was fractured. Try to stay way from caffine and carbonation they do not let calcium into your bones. And take calcium supplements.
It does get better faster then you think. I was back to the gym about 4 weeks after getting my boot of and physical thyerapy.
It soon will be a distant Memory. I hated that boot!!Good Luck!!

Shocked

Laughing Laughing Laughing Arnold told me at the end of last summer that with all the new seeds I put in, he would not be able to tell what I planted from the weeds, so he would not be able to 'spray' the weeds for me this summer!! Laughing Wink He sincerely apologized!!! Very Happy I hope to be posting updated pics of my infamous landscape area soon! I hope some of my many thousands of seeds took hold. And I'm crossing my fingers that many of the young plants I put in survived the winter! Shocked

Diane, that really stinks! Sometimes it is better NOT to know though until it happens lol. The garden will be fine and your arms will look GREAT after throwing the tennis ball a gazillion times! It's a tough break and I wish I was closer to help out!

Diane....don't know if walmart still sells them but they used to sell Kiddie fishing poles all made of plastic. You could put a treat on the end, cast off and then reel it in and see HOW FAST Dakota really is Laughing

Sorry I missed this one Diane. You had a string of misfortune, but I can still see your healthy attitude shining through. That is important at a time like this. Keep it up!!
