Oh, your poor boy! I'm sure he will be fine but what a nightmare! It's a good thing dog's don't have much vanity. He probably won't mind at all haven't a bit shorter tail once it heals.

But about the vet.... I'd seriously consider whether or not your first vet is a good choice.

I think we'll be going to the new vet for everything now. I was very pleased with everything they did.

Oh, what a terrible accident! I'm glad Charlie got to keep most of his tail. I'm sure he's glad to be back home with his family. I hope recovery goes well. Cali sends kisses!

Oooooooooh! Poor, poor Charlie!!
I can totally relate and will leave the horror story out, but my weimeraner/lab was wagging his tail so hard in my apartment years ago that he severed his tail off in the metal louver doors!!
Bogie sends hugs and smoochies!

Awww... poor Charlie! My Ari sends lots of doodle hugs and kisses his way in hopes that he feels better soon!

I can't believe the difference in price and procedure! Amputating his entire tail just seemed wrong and a little extreme!

This recently happened with my brother-in-laws dog (same exact kind of incident... so we should all be careful with those doors...) and they did not even consider amputating his entire tail. They simply did what your vet did for Charlie.

We both hope that Charlie has a speedy recovery and is back to himself soon!

Charlie did good over night, we let him sleep out of his cage for the first time so we could keep an eye on him. I think the change of routine threw him off a little, but he did good. He had one minor problem last night when he wagged his tail and the bandage went flying through the room like a projectile, but other than that, no problems so far. Some gauze and tape and we were all set.

I'm home with him today to keep an eye on him, for the most part he's leaving it alone. I took his e-collar off while I'm around and he's been leaving it alone, so I'll leave it off for a while. The poor thing keeps walking in to things with it on. Still not much appetite, but I'm sure that will come back.

I am so sorry this happened but glad to see your other vet was able to
save his tail.

Charlie looks so sad in that picture........and how is your son doing?
wondering how he feels with this.
