i am a member of a dog training forum here in SF and this information was forwarded to me by a member of the group. Vets are starting to sell it because they are getting lots of free samples from Fort Dodge, the manufacturer. Just say no!!

This is a very important message to my family & friends who have
dogs-cats--and to alert you to the hazard of using a new Flea & Tick
Preventative called ProMeris (http://www.promeris.com/consumer/
<http://www.promeris.com/consumer/> )

This is a new product designed to be a more effective product than other
flea/tick treatments that was just released this year. It is available
thru a vet and not currently on-line. I got ProMeris this
week for my 7 dogs (6 Huskies & 1 Golden-Airedale) , a and the results
were debilitating
for nearly all of them-including me. Since my incident this week, my vet
has pulled it from distribution and alerted the manufacturer, Fort Dodge
.

Here are my results: Within less than 2 hours after applying, 4 of my
dogs had vomited from 2-4 times, 3 were disoriented and stumbling, 1 was
dragging his back leg, 1 was salivating. I had very similar symptoms
like an allergic reaction-my lips were swollen, eyes very red, mucous
membranes such as eyes, nose, and mouth were stinging. I was very
disoriented- dizzy equilibrium and not able to drive. To make this a
short story-all 7 of my dogs were admitted to the hospital for
Veterinarian care, and 3 of them remained for care, IV fluids and
observation for 24 hours. I was in the emergency room. I'm home now and
so are the dogs. We're all feeling much better. Vet bills were over
$2,500 and Fort Dodge is paying for these. Not only can the product
cause this reaction, it has a highly noxious odor that permeated the
house and is just starting to dissipate after 3 days.

I tried Promeris one time on Maya and it smelled so bad I couldn't handle it. We switched to K9 Advantix after that application. I am so glad Maya did not have that kind of reaction.

Check out this pharma board...not for the innocent with all the nastiness and cursing...I guess when your livelihood is on the line, the worst comes out Rolling Eyes

I think this is the drug where the vets were offered a chance to win a car if they went to a info meeting?

Haven't gone to the link, but am so saddened by your experience. I hope you and your dogs fully recover with no long lasting effects. That is just dreadful. Thank you so much for informing us.

Wow...I'm afraid I would have fallen to pieces had I had that experiece. I too would be madder than a hornet!
The disscussion board was flat out rude....amazing how people can be when their name and face are out of the picture!
I don't know if this really works...... I get a monthly health flier, and with this month being earth day, there were several alternatives to chemicals.
"Kills Fleas instantly- Dawn Dishwashing Liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas."
We don't have a flea problem were I live, perhaps this would be of some use to someone else.

Dawn works along with Ivory, but you have to soak the fleas in the water, just rinsing doesn't do the trick. The fleas have to drown, a hose and the dish soap doesn't do it. If you have a big enough tub to do it in , fine. Most people don't. And be careful with it around the eyes. Dish soap is murder when you get it in your eyes and can cause damage.

Dawn also doesn't help from bringing the nasty things into the house where they can get in your carpets, furniture, whatever. It's not easy to get rid of fleas once they get established in your house.

We did this remedy for years and each year we had to do the whole bomb the house thing because of the fleas in the carpet. Fleas will bite humans too. I'm so much happier with Frontline.

Shaia,
Thank you for the learning experience. I will be sure to not use this. What a horrible time, poor dogs too...Hopefully everyone is fine now.
The dish liquid will work wonders if you are careful.
I once had a litter of kittens and they were too small for flea treatments so I had to bathe the kittens in the BR Sink every week to keep the fleas off. They drowned in the liquid once applied and then if that tdidnt get em, the water did. But it didnt solve the problem around the house.
We had to use the BOMB also...once they are in your house it is very difficult to eradicate....the buggers...
We use Frontline also. Is there another Natural suggestion that anyone uses.?

Oh-oh Shocked .......I think that might have been what we just treated Bogart with. I know it was something NEW and I'd never heard of it. We threw away the tube, so I don't know the name.....will call vet tomorrow. I know it began with a P. Rolling Eyes
