OK i used to have my 2 doodles trained the word HUSH to stop barking on command. Somewhere this winter while being sick and having a 3rd puppy doodle i lost sight of this training.

Well the past week or so Max and Peanut have woken us up numerous times barking. Last night Peanut got crated hahahaa

So i must say i am back to HUSH training and with a major storm that hit with tons of thunder , doors blowing closed etc meaning loud unexpected noises. I couldn't have planned it better hahahaaaaaaaa

after 4 hours of HUSH training we're really making progress Very Happy and
i hope like in the past I use treats for 2 days, 50/50shot on 3rd day
and thereafter none. WISH ME LUCK oh they also learn the hand signal for HUSH too
finger up to your mouth

treats used: real food and also lean treats

Good luck Annmarie, that's a valuable lesson to have them learn.

And the hand signal for humans is foot in the mouth! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Is Dave going to try this technique on you? Just curious...... Embarassed Laughing

Ok Annarie, I'm in need of some hush training myself! Well, and Stella is, too. Wink Can you give me a run-down of how to go about it with a 4-month-old pup? I've never had a barker before so this is all new to me!!

Just tidbits that worked for me...

I teach a word (mine is "quiet"), but I also teach a hand signal (lesson learned because my labs all seemed to go semi-DEAF in their old age). Strangely enough, the hand signals have worked better for every dog -- maybe because there is eye contact (not really sure).

If neither works (usually because they are in a "hyper" state of mind), stand up (and hover OVER like a powerful GIANT - lol - with your hands on your hips and eye contact). The minute they stop barking, praise with a verbal "good boy/girl" and a small treat and slowly walk away.

Before teaching Lincoln quite we first taught him what barking is . When he barked we (xd it this has to do with synalia method) "X Lincoln that s barking ..treat) do that 3 times and the moment he is quiet...."X thats quiet good quiet i loooove when you are quiet" they catch on quick!
