Hi I know I know I am never around Smile

But I think of you all bunches Smile

I have a placed puppy that is one now and at about 6 months lost hair about the size of a half dollar near the tail. Fur never came back. All was well and now she has more Sad

Here is an excerpt from the parent.....

Callie turned one year old last week. I truly enjoy her, she's a good friend!
I emailed you about 6 months ago that she was losing fur from one spot on her back. The spot was about the size of a half dollar... it stopped growing in size however the fur never came back in.
In the last month she has lost a patch near that one about 3-4 inches in diameter. I've had her to 2 vets that I trust that I took my cocker too. They have no idea what the problem is and one want me to consider having a skin biopsy done!!!!
Both vets suggested that I talk with you to see if you have reports of this from any of the other pups.
I'm very concerned! It doesn't seem to bother her, but it looks AWFUL and I'm concerned that other patches may appear!
She has been on Iams puppy food nothing with corn in it and both vets didn't think it was diet related.

My first thought is diet and my second is parasite, but if she has been to two vets what would you guys say I could also suggest?

Humm, Iam's food with no corn in it? Even their Lamb & Rice formula has corn in it.

I've read online about yeast infections in the skin and the only way you can diagnose it is with a skin sample. Could that be it?

This was happening to my sister's Bichon. Only a diet change made it stop. She put him on a food that has a fairly low rating before she knew any better but since it worked she is afraid to switch him now. I think she switched to Pedigree.

I had a lab 6month old puppy who got bald spots.
Skin scrapings showed dermodectic mange (sp?)
Scrapings had to be repeated x 3 until negative.
There was a medication prescribed & it grew back in but when the med was stopped it happened again.
This was the prelude to the diagnosis of allergic immune disorder that included yeast overgrowth (ears & elsewhere), eating his own poop ++.
I don't remember what puppy chow I was feeding him, but it probably had lots of grains because it was beofre I met all of you & learned so much.
That dog was oblivious to his health issues, a wild maniac guy but now I think he acted that way because he was so full of whatever.
He didn't itch. The spots weren't red at all.

Interesting about Iams.... I will check out the website.
Seems all food or allergy related just as I thought. I will share your advice and go check out iams... Smile

I would think like you - only in a different order, lol....parasite like demodectic mange comes to mind, but then there's also a disease that causes patches like this, I believe, called Sebacious Adnenitis (SA)

Megan is exactly right from what I've read and learned from my neighbor having a dog with the Demodectic Mange that they have to maintain with their Boston Terrier. Ultimately it's an immune disorder, since all dogs are subject to the mites that cause the problem. Razz

If you google it, you might find more info to rule it out or consider it. I did a search a while ago and it's very interesting but the patches are what come to mind as I try to recall and rattle this old brain. Rolling Eyes

Good for you for following up - you want to know about and get an answer about this, of course, if you were going breed the same two parents again.

Micky, hi! I am sorry about your puppy...my first thought was SA.
Have you screened for that? (I am not an advocate of the screening as the biopsy needs to come from an affected area of skin or it won't show.)
Since this pup has the skin problem, I would agree with the vets to do a biopsy. SA can be very serious, but isn't always. If all Poodles in your lines have been cleared for SA you will probably not have to worry...but if it was me, I'd want the SA test run.

I love nice puppy parents... she is changing foods immediately and we taking Callie to my preferred vet this thursday for evaluation.
