Hi all,

Have been lurking and loving all the posts for about six months now – spent one very pleasurable nothing-good-on-tv evening soaking up all the fantastic Wet Doodle photos, repeatedly nudging my husband and saying “Look at THIS one!”

I realize you’re pretty much all Labradoodle, Aussie Labradoodle and Goldendoodle owners and we’re looking to become mum and dad to a Giant Schnoodle, so I really hope you don’t mind an imposter but I can find absolutely nothing in the same league as this forum anywhere else which relates to the GS.

In answer to probably your first question of me - we are set on a Giant Schnoodle, rather than a Labra or Golden as we want to be certain of non-shedding. We run a B&B and during the summer madness we are so busy cleaning our guest rooms that we have very minimal energy/time to clean our own accommodation, so lack of hair is a MAJOR factor. We are, however, very happy to do daily grooming (much more fun than daily vacuuming!)

If a Giant Schnoodle doesn’t work out (we have a whole series of timing issues which I will bore you with at a later date), then our next choice will be an F1B Goldendoodle, as (at least from my research) they seem to be the next least likely to shed. There is a Goldendoodle breeder within driving distance of where we live - the situation with Giant Schnoodles, however, is not that simple....

That brings me to my first (of probably very many questions):

1. Are there any Giant Schnoodle owners lurking among you already?
2. Does anyone have any knowledge of any of the three following breeders as these are the ones on our list right now:

http://www.californiaschnoodles.com/index.html

http://www.debsdoodles.com/index.html

http://smeragliaschnoodles.com/

The last one is located in Alabama, and we live on Vancouver Island, BC (west coast of Canada) and I am really nervous about having a puppy shipped at all, never mind from one side of the continent to the other! However there is a forum on that website and all the owners sing the breeder’s praises – I’m just looking for an outsider’s opinion too.

At least the other two locations - Sacramento and Montana would only be a couple of hours flight for the poor little mite.

Also if anyone knows of any breeder located within a day’s driving distance from us (i.e. British Columbia or Washington State - happy to make it an overnight trip) then we would be delighted to hear about them.

Sorry for the long-winded first post – am shutting-up now and signing off – very excited to hear any responses!

Thanks in advance.

Nicky (& Chris – the husband)

or try for some info from the Canadian Giant Schnauzer club

Thanks for the links Sue (nice to hear from a fellow BC-er!)

However I would be too nervous to ask them about Giant Schnauzer x Standard Poodle crosses - my impression has been that many of the "pure breed" breeders are not that impressed by the doodle crosses of their breed.

The nearest Giant Schnoodle breeders I've been able to find are the Montana and Sacramento ones in my previous post - a bit frustrating as am very concerned about the whole shipping thing.

Thanks for taking the time to respond - and I LOVE Denver!

Nicky.

I did not know there was such a dog....the one in the pic from the first website is ADORABLE!!

I Googled the Giant Schnoodle, but could not find much info. I would just do my homework since there is not a lot of info. Maybe talk to some owners and maybe talk to some vets, too.

I hope you get the pup you want without having to go too far.

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Nicky:

I don't have any info on breeders but I do on shipping. Maya was shipped to me from Canada. She even had to stay overnight at an airport. When I picked her up it took me a little coaxing to get her out of her crate and she needed a bath (not too stinky though) but she rode home with me on my lap and was loveable from Day 1. The vet was very suprised that we bonded so quickly!

I don't know of any Giant Schnoodle breeders

but I do have a Goldendoodle and LD too.
Goldendoodles........you can go wrong! less likely to shed than f1 Ld's

usually have good solid structure, some are quite tall, thicker build,
great with kids w/out training, naturally retrieve and bring to you again w/out training, smart, comical for sure, agile, and the list continues

(can you tell i am biased towards doodles Wink )
Labradoodles are awesome too.....the f1b's usually are also same and very low to nonshedding

Hi again everyone,

Thanks so much for all the input - really good to know the little mites travel well from first hand experience. Maybe we get more stressed about it than the pups do.

And Cissy, that is exactly what I was hoping for, a kinda word-of-mouth thing as I think I have found all the breeders I can via the internet (have discounted a couple of dubious looking ones).

I've been in touch with all the three I mentioned above and will wait to see if any of them have a confirmed pregnancy around about the end of this month/beginning of Aug as we want to get our puppy end of Nov/beginning of Dec time.

The timing is due to our business being our B&B - want to get a puppy at the start of our quieter winter season when we have time to devote to settling him in and training him. Especially training him to not go barking-bonkers when people he doesn't recognise come through the front door as that will happen several times a day!

But the joy of that business is that we work at home and so he will rarely be left alone for any length of time.

Thank you so much for your warm welcome. Hopefully you won't mind if I chip in with questions and stuff every now and again - even if we do get a Giant Schnoodle and don't "exactly" fit the correct profile for the forum.

We are VERY excited!

Thanks again,

Nicky

Hi,

You may want to try posting on the Doodle Zoo (just go to yahoo.com and type in doodle zoo and it'll be the first link). I know there are people there who own Schnoodles Smile

Hadn't come across Doodle Zoo in my searches - will definitely check that out.
Thanks!

I just remembered that my friend's sister has a mini schnoodle...the puppy is adorable and I hear he is super smart and loving. Not sure if it's the same between mini schnoodles and giant schnoodles.

What I would do if I were you is to look at the characteristics of giant schnauzers (spelling?) - I did this when we adopted Kirby (mix of poodle and irish setter). We knew he would have some qualities that are different than labra/goldendoodles, but were ok with that.

Also, you could post a note on Craigslist (if you have that in your hometown) asking if there are any Giant Schnoodle owners around. That is how I found a local Labradoodle group.

Again, calling around to some vets might help. You never know, one of them may have a GS client.

Let us know if you find one!!!

I wonder if there are any giant Schnoodles as Giant Schnauzers are hard to come by .......and i know 2 people who have them.
Great dogs but somewhat protectivce of family and not extremely friendly

and then to mix that with a poodle.............without careful breeding and seletion of dam/sire that could be an unpredicatable breeding temperament.

I am NOT being negative rather trying to state and outloud thought.
I love both breeds.......i do see schnoodles alot but they use the smaller schnauzers that have a different personality/temperament

Wow - poodle/Irish setter - that sounds very interesting, never heard of that one before.
So is Kirby the one on the left in your Avatar? (just guessing from the colouring). He is super-cute.
Where did you find him? And how is his shedding situation?

Please don't worry about sounding negative - I'm of the opinion that all feedback on this forum is good feedback - I am definitely all ears!

I hadn't thought before about Giant Schnauzers not being that common, but I think you are probably right, and that is probably one of the reasons I've found only a few Giant Schnoodle breeders.
We are actually originally British - have only lived in Canada for three years - and they're not that rare in the UK, but now I come to think about it I really haven't seen that many in North America. I really hadn't thought about that before - see what I mean, all feedback is good feedback!

Joy De La Ren has Giant Schnoodles of Joy--don't know the URL--she's a pretty nice, eccentric funny lady. SHe has always seemed responsible as a breeder. You might want to look her up too!
