I'm so sorry for your loss.
Even though as Christians we are taught that animals don't have souls, I think God has a special place for those that are special to us. Remember, He loves every one of us along with all His creations.
We don't know all the reasons why God chooses to take those who we love away early. I don't care even to guess. I just know He has our best interests at heart. |

I am so sorry for your loss. It is especially hard on the little ones as they just don't understand.
I agree with Doodleheaven in that honesty is the best policy when it comes to kids. They may get upset but there is only so much you can hide from them. They eventually figure it out anyway. |

Thank you everyone.
We told my nieces yesterday over the phone. (You guys gave us the push to do it.) Although they were sad and we could hear sniffles, it was quickly turned around when we asked them if they'd help us pick out a new puppy and help train her. They all started talking at once about how good each one is at training puppies. Funny, since they have never owned a puppy - but at least it gave them something good to look forward to.
Brandy is still acting off and has sad eyes. Mom had a really hard time leaving her today. She was going to wait about a month for a new dog, but it now thinking she wants to do it NEXT WEEK. She wants me to do the research and look for maybe a 6-8 month old. Now I just have to find a good breeder - as she doesn't want to have a puppy with any health concerns if we can help it.
We still haven't told my kids. Frankly I'm not sure they will understand until we are at my moms and they "see" she is missing. My son has delays, so it's more like they are both 2 1/2 years old - and I think its a bit too abstract for them. And usually they can't tell the difference between one dog and another when they look at pictures of dogs - they just go by color and assume it's one of the four dogs (mine or moms). So it may be easier to explain it all when they are there. But I was encouraged by my nieces reaction and think they will help distract my kids from missing Mia anyways. (They arrive on Wed) |
