I am hoping for some input from those of you who are doing your own grooming at home. After having Fonzie's initial spring hairdo done at the groomer's, I want to keep it nice and short for the summer. I have been grazing the fur on his legs and feet, but all of a sudden it is just too thick and long for my regular clippers. I know I need a nice set of quality clippers, but am wondering if there is anything in particular that I should be looking for in a good clipper?

| Good question, I was wondering the same thing. Dudley's chin hair needs some trimming. The groomer left it a bit too long and now he looks like a hippie, just needs the hemp necklace! |

We have been clipping Otis at home from the start. Well actually he went to the groomers once. He was terrified! I did trim him with human hair clippers. They worked for a while, but they got dull fast. I purchased some prof. dog clippers from Pet Edge. Andis super 2 speed, I think they are call. I purchased and #10 and #5 blade. That seems to get him short enough. They were about $130. I also have a broken coat Jack Russell, who needs to be trimmed.
The clippers work well. You can buy much more expensive ones. My only problem now is that he is still afraid of having his feet and face clipped. So now he looks like a Portuguese Water Dog. He is getting better. I find that I need to clip him nearly every 4 weeks. Good Luck!

If you do an internet search you can find good deals. We just bought the Oster A5 Turbo ($117 after rebate) and a set of Arius Eckert Shears ($199 for all 3). It seems like a lot however we will break even after 5 groomings _________________ mtd/renee/abby/dr katz

I use Oster A5s on Dante - have had my pair for over 20 years (used on horses before my doodle) and have never had a problem with them.

I use Oster A5 as well. They have worked real well doing a wool coat and a fleece coat. You can buy clip on combs which work real well as long as you don't have matts in your doods coat. _________________ Ingrid, Lucee & Rusty
