|
|
| I grew up with a Portuguese Water Dog, and loved him to pieces...great personality a good "athlete." My wife and I are strongly considering a Labradoodle, and they seem to be a good fit for our lifestyle. We both work, but considering many of the posts here, it seems there are great ways to keep them active and happy. I do short runs during the week, but generally long trail runs on the weekend. Anybody know if Labradoodles are good runners too? |

Errr... Doodle 500? LOL
Seriously, I suspect a doodle would make a good running companion once he/she's trained. _________________ Chas P., Carol and Ozzie |

We have 2 doodles, one has field trial lab in him and the other has english lab... Lucas (field trial) would make and excellent running partner!!! Della (english) would make a ok partner, but would rather stay at home... on the couch... in the A/C! _________________ Jenny, Sam, Lucas, & Della |

I have a goldendoodle (Beau) he is too big to run with me. But Cacao my labradoodle is perfect. Her and i will take a small run around a few blocks twice a week. She loves it. Plus she has learned not to pull me when we run. I would say yes good running partners. (i am not saying goldendoodles aren't good running partners just mine is as big as me when he is on his back legs. he would keep going and i wouldn't be able to keep up) _________________ Samantha, Cacao and Beau

My Tuesday is an F1 LD with field labs in her ......best personal trainer ever!! She brings my shoes when we go for walks...and will follow me around with them if we haven't gone out within a few days......how can you say NO?
Actually, I will have to say that she has mellowed out considerable from age 2 to 3, but is always game to go hiking. She loves if I bust out with a short run...I know she would love to run with me but I just don't have it in me anymore! _________________ Judi,Tuesday& Marley(and little Reba too!)

Hee! Daisy does this, too! I nearly fell over the first time she did it. She had to bring my shoes down the stairs one at a time, and since she's never been one to chew things like shoes, I was baffled when she brought the first one down and dropped it at my feet. Then she went straight back up for the second one and brought it to me, too, and I realized she was saying, "Mom, don't you know what time it is? We're supposed to be out jogging now!"
And to the OP, I'm not a great runner by any means. Daisy and I do about two miles each morning, and I do a rather pitiful combination of walking and jogging, depending on how I feel on any given day. Daisy is certainly able to match my pace, and she would probably think she'd died and gone to heaven on a "long trail run" - should her mistress suddenly recapture her youth and find herself capable of such a thing. When we were at the beach with her this spring, I let her run off leash, and she did about two miles of running back and forth (seriously) for every quarter mile I walked. She is also very agile and jumps like she has springs in her feet. Daisy was a rescue, so we don't know her background, but I suspect most doodles would make great running companions, especially if they were conditioned to it from the start.
Best,
S. |

Especially after watching Dudley run around the yard with my sister's dogs last night, yes... He runs circles around their mutt and their mixed Shepard.
Labs are born and raised to hunt hard all day. Poodles are well... poodles... Don't really know much about them...
Keep in mind that a dog will not always let you know that they are tired, they'll keep on trucking through the pain just because you think they want them to.
Some advice I've recv'd is to start them out slowly much like a person that is starting running. Don't strap on a leash and expect them to run a 5K with you. You probably already knew that though... |

Poodles are like the Labs of Europe... so they're great runners, and are far more graceful and light on their feet than most labs. You want to start them out slow though and take it easy on pups since their hips aren't mature till they're 2 and the last thing you want to do is cause hip problems for them.
Have fun, It sounds like you're on the right track! _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net

After seeing the way Max can run and catch a grounhog last week
i'd say he would make a good running partner.
Sometimes i do a short run with him out back.
peanut loves to run as well. _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut
