I've been home all week with our new puppy and have noticed some interesting things about how she sleeps and am wondering if these things are normal. (Mainly because the first few days whenever she woke up she peed so I was constantly watching her to catch her when she woke up to take her out quickly)

1. Sleeping/napping with eyes open? Sadie does this occasionally and it is really weird. I did have a roommate in college that did this, but have never heard of dogs doing it.

2. Barking, whimpering, and wagging her tail while sleeping. The tail thumping against my leg while she was sound asleep was quite interesting and unexpected.

So much to learn with my new little one.

Annabelle dreams frequently, as have my other dogs. She makes all sorts of noise and moves around and wags/thumps tail. ONe of my labs use to run in her sleep frequently

I think this is all normal. I always wonder what they dream about. My lab also ran in his sleep while laying on his side. I have noticed that Doods like to sleep on their backs, including mine.

The second day that we had Fonzie (he was 8 wks), I sat in the car with him while my son was at batting practice. Fonzie slept on my lap and his bat little body twitched in sleep. His lips were resting on the armrest and in his sleep he was nursing on the armrest! It was such a pitiful site. I knew what the poor thing was dreaming about and who he was missing....A true pms moment for me.

Cacao and Beau both do that. I think Cacao is dreaming of the day she wins at tug of war with Beau. And I think Beau is dreaming of getting that damn bird that keeps messing with him. ((One of these days he will get that darn bird...I think the bird laughs at him, and that just upsets him. By the way Beau can get three feet off the ground with no problem....he tried one day to get the bird)) lol

I don't know about the sleeping with the eyes open but the rest sounds quite familiar. Our puppy is 5 1/2 months and she still dreams out loud...she barks, growls, twitches, suckles...all sorts of stuff in her sleep. It is very entertaining!!

Nicky frequently rests with his eyes open. I don't know if he's actually sleeping.

Just this evening he was asleep and his tail was wagging. Sometimes he whimpers or makes other noises while he sleeps. I don't think it's at all unusual.

Miko is big on the running/chasing in her sleep, especially after a trip to the park, or a really good squirrel patrol in the yard. Rumor whimpers from time to time, and Jonah does little woofs and a big sigh.

Sounds normal to me! Ozzie often sleeps with his eyes open (unresponsive if you wave a hand in front of his face). He also howls in his sleep. I think he dreams about running off and joining a pack of coyotes.
