|
|
Ok, this thing has to get nipped in the bud. Until last night Dudley (1 1/2 y.o) slept through the night or was at least quiet until we went to get him around 630am to go out. This morning he started barking intermittently at about 6:00 to go out. So I figured maybe he got into something that didn't agree with him so I went and let him out after he stopped barking for a minute.
He peed a bit, then he was doing his 'let's play' routine so I brought him back inside and put him back in his kennel.
15 minutes later he was barking again and kept barking every 5 seconds or so until the GF got up to take him out (he went #1 and #2 right away) and started getting ready for work.
2 questions:
- Has anyone had this start for apparently no reason before?
- Obviously we can't give him treats or anything when we're in bed. However he is too loud to sleep through the barking. Is this a one time thing? What is the best way to deal with this and nip it in the bud? |

We have a similar issue...both our doodles are up by 6:30 and dying to go potty and eat. On weekdays it's fine because we are up by 6...but it's then difficult to get them on a new schedule for the weekend. We get up with them (Sat and Sun)...let them do their business...feed them (let them play for maybe 15 min) and then bring them back to bed with us. We have this schedule for 5/7 day so I don't think we have much hope of changing them for 2 days _________________ Leslie M |

I'm fine with the schedule we have set up for him, but he's being too darn picky!
Now that I think about it we did go to bed a bit earlier than usual last night, so if he is used to being in the kennel for 7 hours, maybe the 7 hours had passed and he was saying 'ok, lets go lazy bones!'
We'll have to see how it goes this weekend... Usually we take him out and put him back in the kennel. I would love to take him to bed, but I need one 'clean room' in the house so I can get dressed with less dog hair in the morning.
Thanks for the feedback! |

I also have a question pertaining to this.
We go to bed and put BO in the crate at the same time each night (10pm). and he gets up and whimpers about 5:30 to go out. No problem.
If he decides to start whimpering at say midnight, should we let him out to go or make him wait. He has a bladder of iron as I have learned even at 5 months of age. _________________ Thanks,

| I would say on average Puddles sleeps through the night without any problems. He goes in at 9 p.m. and is let out at 6 a.m. The few times that he has whimpered, we've rushed down to let him out and every time it was because he didn't feel well and needed to GO. I was so happy that he told us. The other night he woke up at 4 a.m. and just didn't want to be in his crate, he wanted to play. I attributed it to the fact that he had a lot of naps the day before and just didn't want to sleep that long. We played fetch in the house for 10 minutes and then he went right back to sleep. Just like people and KIDS, I think pets have nights where they don't sleep as well for whatever reason. |
