OK==I’m catching up on posting after a long hiatus! This is the saga of the eagle table! My husband and I were at a local mall and saw an import store going out of business with all the associated sales—you know what I mean . . . Well, they had some items we negotiated on and bought. But there was this gorgeous eagle table that was not only out of our price range but, we had no place for it (at our Eagle Lake vacation house), The original cost (if you believe these prices) was $1400, but we could have it for a mere $800. Well, no deal and the months marched on. By now, we knew the owner who, by now, knew we had a house at Eagle Lake and he decided that this table was for us!! Slowly, the price came down. He finally came down to $250. My husband, embarrassingly, offered $200, which the owner reluctantly refused. In a gesture of good will, we went out into the mall aisle and counted pocket change which surprisingly came up to $249!!! So guess what! We bought a beautiful eagle table with a 48” glass top that we had no use for!!! We lugged the heavy table—solid alabaster—about $200 pounds, up to Eagle Lake. Our friends, who sometimes regret that designation, helped up lug the table upstairs into the master bedroom (loft-style, open to below) where it looked totally unimpressive. They then lugged it downstairs back into the living room where it was just plain too big. While as luck would have it, one of the luggers is also a mason and—obviously tired of lugging, he offered to make a stone top that would better fit our room. The result—FABULOUS!!! At least I think; what do you think????
