Shannon,
Does this shelter maintain any history on the dogs they get?? Are they dogs that have been "let go" and someone that finds it calls the shelter ?
Or do people take them to the shelter because for whatever reasons they no longer want the dog? I know that all the scenarios are probably involved....but is there ever any info available about the dogs to give people that rescue them? I just can't imagine why someone would take a doodle to a shelter that euthanizes....That breaks my heart! As it does for any other dog taken there.....
Thank you from me, too, for all you do!!

This shelter normally has a bit of information on the dogs that come in. They all seem to be owner surrenders up there, and so they can tell a bit about the dog, but most people are not honest when bringing a dog in. Some are dropped off in the middle of the night with notes, and others are just brought in because they cannot care for the dog, or they are bored with them. We have heard many excuses and reasons. For the most part, some people just do not like the personality and as you know, it takes silly people to own a doodle that can appreciate their goofiness, like we all do. _________________ Shannon - Phantom, Star, Fozzie & Roni

Thank you, Shannon....I guess I haven't met a doodle I didn't fall in love with....so it is hard for me to understand....I mean, there are obviously things that happen that make it impossible for someone to keep a dog, or a certain dog....but finding it another home would be so much better than risking a shelter putting it down!! I guess they don't want to fool with that process...but it would be the only responsible thing to do in my book !!
I can see why breeder's would ask for the dog back in the event it didn't work out for someone...and then rehome it themselves.
Thank you to you, Shannon, and others who fosterand help foster!!

Ive found I'm not too good at fostering... I'm better at adopting!! Knowing how a doodles fun loving personality is, It hurts to think of them in a kennel at a shelter. So many people at this forum doing so much in they're own way, whether its fostering, or spreading the word of a dood in need to others. _________________ Mike, Sofie, and Parker

Ahhh, Mike don't feel bad! LOL I knew the minute you saw Parker that he would stay with you. Without people adopting, we would also have fosters filled up wih doodles, and we don't because they are so great and get adopted quickly!!
A lot of people do not realize that there is a doodle rescue, so they take them to the pound. We are now working on spreading the word that there is help available in the Fort Wayne area, and hopefully they will come to us instead of taking them to animal control. _________________ Shannon - Phantom, Star, Fozzie & Roni

This guy is really great... if you know of someone in my area, let them know soon..... I am about to keep this dude!
My husband totally loves him! He is getting all kinds of compliments from people who see him and really is a friendly dog. If we can get the play nipping under control then I think he could be a great therapy dog. |
