What a horrible accident. Crying or Very sad
I glad that Charlie is feeling better and I'm especially glad that you had a second vet to go to. Removing his tail just seems way too extreme.

Hugs and Kisses to Charlie!

WOW what a bummer Poor Charley! I hope you will consider teaching Charley to sit/stay at doorways until you release him. I teach it from day one. Every time we come to the doorway Abby sits until I say OK or Heel. Heal fast Charley!

Charlie looks so sad in that picture........and how is your son doing?
wondering how he feels with this.

Timmy (our oldest) is the one that was letting him out, and he was really upset when it happened, he kept blaming himself. He's our sensitive one to begin with, so it figures he would be the one it happened to. He's OK now, but keeps saying he still feels bad.

I wish it was Mommy! Daddy is the one that did all the running from vet to vet! And getting Charlie to swallow pills? Forget Mommy, it's all Daddy!

winf73....i was thinking about your son again.
when i was about 6 years old i was playing with our bull mastiff puppy who jumped off my bed and broke his leg Shocked

i am now 46yrs old and never forgot it....i always felt guitly even though as an adult i know things happen. I guess what i am saying is when my mom would tell people i'd cringe because she told everyone i was playing with Noble at the time. So i guess if you omit your son's name if people ask, i guess it might help him not feel as bad?

and how's charlie doing?

Charlie is doing good, pretty much back to his normal self. We had to leave him alone for the first time yesterday, which didn't turn out too good. When I came home to bring him to the vet for a re-check and a bandage change, he had managed to get the e-collar off by chewing the tabs off that connect it to his coller. He managed to pull his bandages off, but luckily he didn't chew on the tail itself. The Doc said he didn't hurt it and that it looked good. Until then he didn't have any interest in it, but I guess being in a cage for a few hours, the boredom got the best of him. He won't be left home alone again until Monday, so hopefully by then he won't bother it. The vet sprayed the bandages with bitter apple, and said to do it again Monday before we leave him. Worst case, he said he would give us some sedatives to knock him out while he was left alone, but I would rather not do that. He said after about 5 days the stitches should be pretty well sealed anyway.

Oh, poor Charley! I am slow to read this, I am sorry!
It is good that Charley is doing well...I am glad that you found the other vet!
About putting Bitter Apple on the bandages, it is better to use Bitter Yuck because it is water based, Bitter Apple has alcohol and would sting if it gets into his wound.
I am hoping that Charley recovers quickly!

Charlie is doing good, but chews off his bandage every time we put him in the cage to leave the house. However, he does not chew his tail. He went for a follow up today, and the vet was very pleased with his progress. His stitches are healing well, so he's not all that worried about him taking the bandages off, as long as he isn't chewing at the stitches.

I got Maya the bite knot (kinda like a neck brace) when she got spayed cause she chewed her e collar just like Charlie did. It was $20 at the pet store.

I will post pics later. It really looks like a neck brace for dogs.
