We chose a very modest house for retirement so we wouldn't have to worry about high taxes and scrimping to get by.
Greg and I are both very simple people which is in our favor right now as we will be able to retire with no mortgage and about $100 a month for taxes and insurance. I don't think we could get by much cheaper than that. _________________ www.tinkerdoodle.net

$3.50-$3.85 on average.
Paul and I commute together as often as we can.
If I could walk everywhere,
I would...
when my laziness becomes more expensive than gas,
then I'll walk!
LOL!
Paul wants to dig out his bike!!
LOL!!
(That'll be the day! LOL)
I laugh,
but,
its so sad.

$3.55 here and my car just needed some fixing up.
Sigh... this is what i get for being an 18 year old with a minumum wage job (which I have been at for 3 years and should be getting $9 to be a "manager" when my boss "can afford to pay me that much") and buying my own car.
For a '97 Mitsubishi Galant, it doesn't do as well on gas as I had hopsed, just 22 miles per gallon....
But at keast I'm not living in China or Hong Kong.
A few days ago out tour guide had said that gas is like $8 in Hong Kong!!!
No wonder they have so many bikes! |

that really stinks...so when I was your age (god that sounds old), gas was under $1 per gallon and my minimum wage job paid $6/hr...the difference now in gas cost is much more than your increase (overwhat I got) for salary. _________________ Leslie M |

and i won't be retiring in my present home with the prices of rising taxes
I keep reading articles both on gas, rising prices and also financing/int rates. It's not real pretty looking . _________________ Annmarie, Max, Peanut & Beau

Our idiotic legislature here in S.C. passed a law about two years ago which allowed the counties to do an "automatic reassessment" whenever a property was sold. Essentially, everytime someone sells property, it is a guarantee that the property taxes will go up! We have so many second homes on the coast here that real estate is suffering anyway, but talk about putting a huge damper on the real estate market! Of course, the taxes on beachfront property is already obscene - who wants to buy something knowing it's going to go EVEN HIGHER??????? _________________ Kim and Tyke

Lynn that was funny. I can't belive how out of control it is all getting. Something needs to be done. But we all need gas to get to and from work, school and so on.

$3.45 here in Albuquerque. And... the price of tortillas is going up because all the corn is being converted to ethanol. I don't want to pay more for my breakfast burritos (with chorizo and red chile) and chicken enchiladas (smothered in green chile).
