Average price here today was 1.44 per litre
Which converted to gallons and US $ works out to $5.08. _________________ Ingrid, Lucee & Rusty

$3.59 here - and being a vacation spot we usually get slammed during the summer because of all the tourists - so by June our gas will be .50-$1.00 more than off Cape.
I drive a 4Runner - and I'm still not ready to give it up. I drive too many kids and too many dogs on a daily basis - I'd never be able to fit them all in a smaller car. If SUV hybrids were more reasonable cost wise, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. _________________ Kristin & dd Annie with our crazy doodle crew - Sandy, Iris, and Maggie

We are at $3.47 here in Lowcountry S.C., but it is usually a little cheaper in the Upstate. Last week I bought a Ford Focus - 35mpg. Have to keep the SUV for long trips, camping and pulling the boats ( I think we will be using the small one MUCH more than the bigger one this summer!). The Explorer is staying parked otherwise. It makes me ill to see Exxon's profits while we are digging in our ashtrays to scrape up the money to buy a few gallons of gas! _________________ Kim and Tyke

yup...or at least salaries do not rise enough to make up for the COL increases.
Yesterday, my friend and I were discussing that we would be interested in the rise of prices during the 20s for the Depression and again in the 70s/80s with the Oil problems and Wall Street Crashes...and then how long it took to recover (and if what has happened the past 1-2 yrs mimics it). Maybe I'll have to do some reading tonight _________________ Leslie M |

Yeah, our gas prices aren't as bad as some other places (but ya wanna talk property tax??? ) But I digress. And we only have full serve here; we're not allowed to pump our own gas. How nuts is that? _________________ -Lynn

Our property tax is over SIX TIMES the amount we paid in Arizona for a same size house worth the same amount
I LOVE NJ (beaches, mountains, etc) but really can't wait to leave. I certainly would not want to be a retiree here on a fixed income. |

they're reassessing us EVERY YEAR now where i live
and my taxes are sky high luckily though it's a 1956 built with an addition in 1999....as if it were a 1999 built my taxes would be double
NY is ridiculously high right now. _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

| Shoot, every year our taxes go up because of "reassessment". That's a load of crock. If I could sell my house for what the county says it's worth, I'd be out of here in a heartbeat! |

Our assessment came back more than 2x the last one (which was done in 1997!). My husband was about to flip "are our taxes going to double"...luckily they will likely only go up 8-10% which we can live with.
I told my mom the other day - I don't know how anyone lives in this area with a lower income (or as a retiree)...if we didn't have "good" jobs I think we would have to jet!
Back to the other fun topic of gas prices....... _________________ Leslie M |
