Gene ... In addition to threading the bobbin you may need to get thread ON the bobbin!
The center nob on the right hand disc should pull out and note on the front of the disc there is small protrusion ...
an empty bobbin would go there.
Place your thread on the thread holder and wrap some extra around the bobbin.
When secure, depress the On lever (is it the knee kind? I love that ... much better than the foot)
and the bobbin should spin gathering thread till it fills.

This was my Mom's sewing machine ... probably the same year ... I have a big lump in my throat
