We just found out this morning that a dear friend of ours, in fact our next door neighbor at Eagle Lake, was diagnosed with colon cancer. She is such a vibrant, caring person; loves dogs, loves nature, loves everything—the kind a person I want to be. And she is a very healthy eater, non-drinker, gets lots of exercise—kind of like me. But she does not believe in those regular, annoying doctor appointments; the irritating kind that none of us like, especially when you feel great. So, instead of being detected in time, the colon cancer has metastasized to her liver and lymph nodes. The point here is, take care of yourselves and make sure your loved ones do likewise. Go to those yucky doctor appointments. Regularly. Even if you feel great.

Diane I am so sorry to hear your friend has metastized cancer, if you care to share her first name I will add her to my prayer lists

I agree colonoscopies are not fun, but they CAN detect cancer - if you have history of Colon CA in your family - talk to your doctor about having a colonoscopy done - even if you dont have that history, they are still good to have at at least age 50

Awwwwww Diane I'm sorry about your friend. She sounds like a great person to know. Cancer is such a beast.

Thanks for the health reminder.

Thank you, Mary and Tink. Her name is Janet. And people, listen up! About 75% of patients with colon cancer have sporadic disease, with no apparent evidence of genetics. Get your checkups on time, every time.

I also know that if there is a history of breast cancer in your family, there will be a history of colon cancer. If you have the defective gene for one, it's the same gene for both.

We'll be praying for Janet.

Oh, Diane, I am so very sorry.
Cancer...just the word is enough to bring us to our knees. I'll never forget when my father was diagnosed, and given a few months. It was the most shock I have ever experienced.
I am a lifetime member of the optomist's club and even though I believed he had cancer, I also believed that his treatment would cure him. It didn't.
All I can say is this...somehow people, like your dear friend Janet, who live their lives with a focus on good health and good habits, live the life they choose and they are happy. Happiness in this life is the gift...joy.
She felt joy and she shared joy with those around her.
Friends like you are special to her. Stay close.
Curse that disease...but remain close to Janet and continue to make happy, joyful memories for you both.
My prayers will be with her, and with you. This is a difficult time.
Thank you for sharing this, for reminding us all how important it is to test, and how lucky we are to be livinging in a time when they can and do detect this disease early enough to cure it.

(((((((((Diane)))))))))))))))
it breaks me heart to hear about this but at the same time I am saying prayers for Janet daily until I hear otherwise

Just 2 mos ago i love a close friend to cancer
flip side: i also have many other friends that have beaten cancer with the worst case scenarios too.

So Diane, Janet needs love, laughter, happiness, postiveness, friendship and prayers.
janet also needs to feel she isn't contaigous as unfortunately some people get scared and run away during a time of need.
i am sooooooooooo happy Janet has someone like you around as a friend, Diane.

lastly, thank you for sharing this as it should be a reminder for all of us to keep up with our health.......and to be there for those in need .

Diane ... many prayers for you friend and for you as you begin this part of your friendship.

And thank you ... I've been putting off going to get my first colonoscopy for no reason ... just haven't done it! I am calling to make an appointment NOW!

Again ... hugs, and prayers to all!

Thank you all very much. We will certainly stay there for Janet and her husband Jerry and we'll try to make every day as fun and happy as it can be. I also know Janet well enough to know that if you asked her if there was anything you could do for her she would say, "YES! Take care of yourselves!" So, cheers for you Mary! I'm going to make an appointment to do the same yucky thing. I'm happy to say that due to an annoyingly persistent doctor, I'm current on almost all of my other check-ups. Now the rest of you do the same thing!! Our doodle family hasn't had to deal with too many crises, so let's keep it that way . . .

This is a wake up call for all of us and I am thankful for the
post as well. Having beaten cancer in the past I try to stay on top
of things as far as regularily having tests done etc.
Have to say I have not done this test yet but I will also make the call
and get in for testing.
Thank you so much

I'm sure all of us feel the same as Sue, and should take heed in Diane's warning.....I myself pooh poohed the colonoscopy for 5 years..and finally after getting sick of listening to my doctor nag, had it done last year...to this day, I don't know why I waited so long...scared????? maybe...but it was a breeze, and I slept the rest of the day..BTW....no problems at all..thank God!!! So go do it everyone, as soon as the doc reccomends it!!!
Very Happy

This post makes me so sad. I just learned Sunday that my best friend's husband passed away last week. He too had cancer and had been fighting it for the past few months. The problem for Mark was a missed diagnosis. He had some other problems that they focused on fixing, and missed the cause. He was only 56 and the nicest man I've ever met. I always told my friend Vikki that he was a "keeper". With work and my problems with flying, I can't make it to the service down in Florida, but per Mark's request, they're going to our favorite waterside restaurant after the service to raise a glass in memory of a great man. I, who no longer drink, will have a beer at 3 o'clock on friday afternoon in celebration of a wonderful life that left this earth too early.
Thank you for letting me share.

Sending our deepest sympathy, prayers and hugs to you Gene at this sad time. And then sending them to Vikki in Florida..take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place and not suffering....

Oh Gene, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Even though you're not related, I know you are feeling her pain. Know that we're all thinking of you and we'll hold you in our prayers. Vikki, too.
