Well, I hate to bust your bubble but you did ask for our opinions and I always try to give my honest opinion whether it is accepted by all or not. IMHO, I'd say the puppy is chocolate because of the liver nose. According to ALAA breed standards, a red must have a black nose.
I know you are not a member of the ALAA so I guess you can call them whatever you want but I think we all need to breed towards a breed standard. JMHO _________________ Di & Archie

course i dont infuse spaniels and terriers in the mix either,
I only use Parent breeds, I guess i dont want to be for that main reason
I will need to talk to a couple more of my poodle breeder friends,
I have some real issues with your comment
"I think we all need to breed towards a breed standard"
Who makes up these rules? lets look at a couple of things
your size standards, who came up with them? look at the size stardard on the poodle
The Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders
The Miniature Poodle is 15 inches or under, with a minimum of 10 inches at the highest point of the shoulder. Miniatures were breed down from the Standard Poodle.
The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulder.
Oldest of the three breeds of Poodle, the Standard is the original Poodle; which the Miniature and Toy were developed
If you are going to base some of your standards on a breed use them all
dont just pick and choose, JMHO
Oh and just so you know,,the nose color can change as they mature _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville(Virginia)

I don't want to get into a forum brawl with you, you wanted opinions and I gave mine, sorry they don't agree with your opinions.
And, yes Nancy, I am aware that noses can change color but a liver or rose nose is just that, they do not change to black.
I know you do not agree with any of the organizations rules and standards and that is why you don't belong to any of them. As for me, I am very gratful for an organization that is providing a standard to go by and that is doing everything in its power to make sure that its breeders are breeding for the right reasons and producing top, notch Labradoodles.
Enough said, I will not comment on any further bad mouthing of the organizations that are working so hard to make the Labradoodle one of the healthiest, sweetest animals ever bred, not to mention one of the most sought after therapy dogs. _________________ Di & Archie

According to VetGen who does the DNA color testing Diane is correct since he has a liver nose he is a chocolate and not a red. However, if you still have questions you could get him DNA color tested.
He is a adorable doodle and chocolates are my favorites!

Just so you know, I am not a member because i really believe that they make rules to suit themselves, I have been around quite a few years and have seen it all and i certainly do NOT believe in allowing other breeds infusion ESPECIALLY spaniels and terriers ,and god only knows what else to taint the breeds ,which hurt the breed in the long run,,this breed was orginally bred for service dogs, infusion of spaniels and terrriers does nothing for the breed other then im guessing reduce the size, health wise NOTHING, parent breeds only in doodles or it will hurt the breed in general, if you think its helping ,you may need to rethink that
so i really do not think any organization is doing much to
"make the Labradoodle one of the healthiest, sweetest animals ever bred, not to mention one of the most sought after therapy dogs"
and that is my main concern with any organization for doodles,
As far as color goes there are different shades of chocolates as there are apricot, Bailey is registered Apricot, he is that because his ears are a tad bit darker, he looks cream
as far as nose pigment ok i will give you that, so they are chocolates but in discribing them to the general public they look red, im calling them red
numerous doodles i have seen called red do not have black noses, of course I suppose thats ok,,they are members,
in any case thank you both for your opinion, reguards _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville(Virginia)

I know you have your own reasons for your belief in only the parent dogs. But the dogs that are guide dogs, golden retrievers and labradors, they are the decendents of Newfoundlands, various SPANIELS, and a few others.
Breeds registered with the AKC today would not exist if they had not had breed infusions. I just wish you wouldn't be so quick to dismiss or put down Australians simply because you personally wouldn't breed them, and you disagree with their procedures. But, as a future doodle owner, I would like to see this wonderful breed of dogs (Labradoodles, in general, both Australian and "American") become exactly that, a breed. So perhaps those who believe in keeping only the two parent breeds should develop a breeding standard as well? If standards are developed, wouldn't that make breeders try to achieve that standard, which could only help the breed. It could cut out some of the breeders who are just breeding Doodles because theres money to be made, which was a scary thing to figure out. How can you figure out which breeder is honestly breeding Labradoodles for the love of the breed, or just because they own a lab. I know that everyone on this forum is in it for the breed. I'm just saying when you do a google search for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles, you develop that question.
Anyway, that's my two cents. That's how I feel about it anyway, and I know not everyone will agree with me, and this isn't meant to offend anyone. I just thought I would throw my thoughts in. |

I guess if you havent been around the forums as long as i have, and watched the deception unfold reguarding the pedigrees so i understand that you wouldnt know where im coming from,
of course all AKC breeds have other breeds in them, but this is not nor was it ever planned to be accepted breed, In fact i hope that this breed is NEVER accepted into AKC that will certainly do more damage then good to the orginally intended use of the breed ,
The whole reason this breed was began was to create a healthier dog, infusioning terriers and spaniels and god only knows what else wont accomplish that,
I am completely Dedicated to this breed, i have been for over 5yrs much longer then many !! i my goals are to preserve the orginal plan ,,use only parents breeds ,breeding healthy sane intelligent service, therapy and family dogs!! _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville(Virginia)

IMO i think preserving this doodle breed is in the best of many good breeders interests.
i don't think red or reddish to chocolate is the real issue as it was just asked for a simple opinion and possible comparision ?
anyway, whether it's the AKC or a good breeder, with the varying sizes and types of doodles along with its origins on both multi gen and non mult, i wonder if a main standard is hard to obtain at the moment, with testing and temperament being the primary concern for producing a better standard of doodles.
i hope i made sense here as right now i am in much pain and sometimes after work my mind thinks one way and my hands type another.
i just like how ususally on this forum we have differing opinions as we also are all different ourselves and still stay open minded. _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut
