Update on my Grandson he is doing better had surgery today on his femur bone it actually somewhat twisted when he fell and broke it. My daughter babysits and another little girl taught him to stand up on the swing and swing high and jump off... Not that she was trying to hurt him she was trying to teach him to have fun.
Anyway they did surgery and fixed the break which was bad said it would never be completely straight again. He now has a cast from he rib cage around his body down his right leg to his ankle and down his left leg to right above his knee. They did leave an opening for diapers, he is 2 1/2 so I don't know how they will keep him still for 6 to 8 weeks he can't stand on it at all with any weight. So he has to lay down and maybe half sit up until then. Holly called me and said she has lots of kids movies to watch if we need them. When you think about it he is to young to read to young to play video games really all there is for him is movies. It will be a long 6 to 8 weeks for all of us...
The puppies are all doing great I was at the hospital from about 1:30 to 8:00 this evening Tom took care of the puppies for me.
Thanks for listening. _________________ Linda & Gracielou

Oh wow, he broke his femur? Even at 2 thats a tough break. He must have twisted his body when he started to land.
Thank you so much for the update. I wish there was something we could do. I can only imagine how helpless you and your daughter feel.
Hugs and love to him. _________________ Kristin & dd Annie with our crazy doodle crew - Sandy, Iris, and Maggie

Daphne looks SOOOO PROUD of herself!!! I love her expression!!
The pups are simply precious. Heartfelt congratulations to you..........
And prayers for a smooth recovery for your grandson, poor baby; he'll be OK, kids are resilient, you'll see...... But those spiral fractures are nasty, I had one on my finger once....but a femur??...uck.
Let me brainstorm a little and help think of things you can do with him to pass the time.... _________________ -Lynn

Lynn, that would be great but I'm not sure anything will keep this little guy down once he is feeling better. The nurses said it is hard to keep them from trying to walk even though it is awkward for them. _________________ Linda & Gracielou

Linda - I emailed my moms group for ideas for activities to keep him occupied and this is what they replied to me... I'll add more as they come up with more ideas...
From one...
read!
-sing songs,
-get a childproof tape-recorder and tapes ( you can check children's tapes out from libraries).
-build with blocks;
-blow bubbles;
-plant in pots or outdoor garden;
Attach a magnet to a 3' cord and make "fish" from paper with a paper clip attached. Let him "fish" from a chair.
From another....
there is a Cranium game for the little kids...can't remember the exact name, but it has them searching for treasure....geez, i have no memory. Anyway, it is easy for the little ones and they get so excited to find the hidden balls and open the treasure chest.
and another...
sticker books? ...stringing beads (big ones)? or even yarn and fruit loops! ....a mini magnadoodle.... silly putty... a lego laptop?.... any kind of activity he could do and get him a little lap tv tray thing.
and yet another...
This happened to a friends son (age 3) on a trampoline. Art books were a big hit, those no mess finger paints ect. Puzzles like wooden ones where they stay in , they have magnet ones too. Make a felt board. poor kiddo, warn the momma by the end of it this boy was dragging himself around with his arms, got a hernia that needed surgery
I'll post if I get any more emailed ideas! _________________ Kristin & dd Annie with our crazy doodle crew - Sandy, Iris, and Maggie

Update on my Grandson Clayton, he is doing great not eating real good yet and he really doesn't need to lose any. He can only lay around sit up about half way proped up. But his spirits are good he goes in tomorrow for an X-Ray to see how it is healing.
Thanks to everyone for the kind responses and prayers. _________________ Linda & Gracielou

Yes the ideas are great now we need good finger foods, he doesn't want no one to feed him and since he can't sit up all the way it's hard to give him a plate of food cause it usually goes all over him.
We bought Pediasure for him to drink daily, I told Amber Ice cream is better than the others it has more fat in it. Any ideas would be appreciated. _________________ Linda & Gracielou

How about things like pancakes rolled up so he can dip them into the syrup? Or tortillas rolled up with catsup/mustard and a hotdog in the middle?
You can get those ice-cream bites covered in chocolate...
And I'll bet if you do an internet search for finger foods for kids you will come up with lots of things.
Mostly I think of (to get a full meal) dipper things...and rolls. They are not going to crumble like a hotdog bun or bread will...
What sort of things does he like to eat? Does he like fruit? Bite sized pieces of veggies? Like could you cook squash and cut in cubes, maybe sprinkle a tiny bit of brown sugar over it?
Some kids love veggies dipped in some sauce (ranch, or cheese or cream cheese)
There's always popcorn, but better yet, healthy trail mix.
I'm sure that the young mothers will have some ideas for you! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

Dont' count yourself out, Jac. I have one boy who will go out the door at a deep discount.
He's a real sweetie, Sits politely while I put his food bowl on the ground(!), it's just that his coat is, well, wiry and sheds. I can't predict that it will stay like this, but have to assume so until proven otherwise. He was a chubby, soft, furry little cherub, like a couple of other boys in the litter, until he was about three weeks old, then I came out one morning and he was skinny! On second glance, he was All Feet! I predict a good sized dog... He still is lean, but is by far the heaviest in the litter. He's growing some serious Bone. (I kidded with the vet that he got into the growth hormone a little early.) His coat has also diverged from those of his littermates.
I think he will be the easy going multi-gen temperament, just a more wiry coat, and I assume he will continue to shed. And most likely a good sized boy. He is a very deep sable color, almost looks black, but his nose is rose, and the color is already beginning to lighten around his nose and eyes, so he should go chocolate if not chocolate/cafe. _________________ Deb, Deva, Smiley, Lavender and Cherie

Gracielou, Clayton's break sounds awful. I'll keep him in prayer.
You have some good suggestions for keeping him busy. I think he'll keep You busy!
As for finger foods, string cheese comes to mind, but you'd need to make sure he gets fluids and veggies, too. Does he like julienne veggies, like carrots, celerly, jicama? Celery with peanut butter? Little finger sandwiches?
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for him.
Your new litter, by the way, is Gorgeous! What a fabulous array of colors. Did I count ten of them? Congratulations! _________________ Deb, Deva, Smiley, Lavender and Cherie

hahahha...Deb, you know how to tempt a girl!
That pup of yours sounds lucious!
How are the rest of the litter selling? I may have a referral for you...I"m not sure, but have had someone mention that they are looking for a multigen. I plan to send them your way!
Every pup that you have is gorgeous! I have seen the pictures and they are just lovely...I am amazed at the care you give them and knowledge you have, especially for a first time litter!
Say...and this is serious...what is property going for in your area?
Dave and I are seriously trying to find a good piece of ground. We want, desperately, to get out dogs to a larger area...but need to find somewhere that Dave could also get work. Any thoughts on that for your neck of the woods? (PM me, if you have any ideas!)

I'll put your name on Old Blue, Jac. (I try so hard not to name them, since their families will want to do that, but have come up with a really weird collection of monikers, based on their collar colors.)
Sales are about what I'd expect for people not knowing I'm here yet. I'm delivering Lupe (formerly known as Puppy #10) to San Francisco next weekend, and assume the Guide Dogs might want to walk out the door with theirs this week, other than that have a few puppies available, all of which are darned cute, in my opinion. I'm looking at keeping a couple, but with AB 1634 looming, wonder if that's wise. I just started a three day blitz on AdWords by Google, so maybe I'll show up on this site. I've had five hits on the site so far today, but assume they might be east coast, considering the early hour out here.
Meanwhile, now that Lupe has been "fixed" and is occupying the extra ex-pen, I fill ten food bowls, then grab four pups from the big pen and they run eagerly to the kitchen (well, there's that one chocolate girl who still tries to stop at the big wooly chocolate soda fountain curled up on the floor...) waiting for me to put their bowls down. Old Blue dines alone, since his voracious appetite extends to All the feed bowls. He's discovered in the last day or so that he is not surrounded by a cage for the first time in his life, so has a little food, then takes a gleeful romp around the kitchen before coming back for more ... so proud of himself. Then he can drop by Lupe's ex-pen to play. When Lupe first moved out, Blue would stand where the pens meet and just bark at his buddy. "Please come out and play!" He misses him.
What sort of acreage are you looking for? There's a 13 acre lot with a Great view on the corner a few doors up from me for about $495K, but it's a quail preserve and there are limitations on how much of the land you could clear. I don't know the exact details. You'd have to like sage. Prices are not as bad out here, more in town. How much of a commute can Dave handle? Can he work from home, or does he need to put face time in an office? Would he be looking for a law firm, or a corporate position? San Marcos has the north county court house. That's not too far from here, but I don't have any idea what firms are there. My accountant has a branch office there, maybe she would know. It would really be fun to have you in the neighborhood! (Oh. You'd probably need to get an "O" designation zoning for the number of dogs you have. I'm zoned for three dogs on my two acres. The lady across the street from the lot in question has seven dogs, and nobody has turned her in yet, but why tempt fate when it's your business?)
PM me with some idea what you want and a price range and I can ask a Realtor. _________________ Deb, Deva, Smiley, Lavender and Cherie

Oooooh, now it gets tough! You want to keep them all...you love them so very much, and yet as sad as it is to see them go, its nice to get your home back to normal too...lonely, but good.
Old Blue...Jac...Okie dokie! I like that!! He is such a sweetheart!
I laugh at your description of him running free and barking! Our pups actually have bark-a-thons ... where they get on opposite sides of a pen or gate and bark at each other...goes on for the longest time! I used to worry that they would be barkers, but they aren't ... they are just trying out their voices. It is so cute!
Thanks for the info...I looked your area up on the internet...I'll send you a PM! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |
