Thanks for everyone's kind responses!

Diane, Serendipity Doodles is way up in Franklin Lakes, which is about 130 miles north of me. I had figured that if I could find a good breeder closer to home, that would be a plus.

Now that you mention it, you're right about the fact that Hope Woods doesn't talk about health testing, while Jersey Doodles does. Amazing how you can get so confused by all the details and miss the main facts! I don't see any mention of a guarantee, either. They were mentioned as being registered by one of the main Australian Labradoodle organizations on an Australian Labradoodle site, so I assumed they had the same credentials as the other places I checked out. But their site doesn't have the same professional look and feel that many of the others do.

Linda, the Jersey Doodles website sounds as though they're still focusing on both golden and lab doodles. Their latest crop of puppies is pale, though, and what really caught my eye on their website was the black Labradoodle they feature on their main page, which looks exactly like the photo I fell in love with in the article I read. The two pups in the shelter are cute, especially the little one, but I wanted a standard and also wanted the comfort of knowing the breeder and the backgrounds. Maybe shipping is something I should consider. Any of you have a black female pup looking for a home?

Leslie

Nancy (Doodlesville) has some adorable Black puppies currently available and some new 3 week old Black puppies that will be ready in May. Although she is in another state, she really isn't too far...maybe you could mapquest it and see what you think. LAM on the forum got her gorgeous Boyd from her.

Hi Nancy!
How are those gorgeous puppies? And how are you doing? I bet you could use a good night's sleep! In a few weeks, it will all be a blur...kind of like when you have a baby! Laughing

Thanks, Linda! Shipping as an option would be a plus since it's hard for us to get away. One reason why I was looking for someplace fairly close to home.

In my opinion shipping is very stressful on a pup
in fact quite a few carriers are not shipping live animals since the government started regulating it
now they have to answer to someone finally
but dogs still get loose
they still get stressed and a stressed pup is a sick puppy
just my opinion Rolling Eyes

Jac also has puppies... I think...Her last blog entry says she has 4 left...I am not sure if she ships though and she is in CA...but her puppies are beautiful and she gives a 3 (three! ) year health warranty.

Hopefully some of the other breeders with pups will chime in and let you know if they ship.

It is difficult to find many Labradoodle breeders in the Northeast for some reason....so of course this makes the price go up in this area Very Happy

Shipping would give me more options; otherwise I'd have to stay within a couple of hours of home. I'll stay tuned and see if anyone else chimes in. Thanks, Linda!

Shipping has gotten more competitive, with some airlines actually seeming to care about the pup's environment. Another option is to choose a puppy from a breeder you talk with, and meet or trust, and arranging DELIVERY to you, or to, say, Newark Airport. I have done this and it is a delight to ride with my puppy in the cabin, and also get the chance to meet our long-distance puppy families. At 8-10wks it's totally legal and possible for a puppy to ride in a carrier bag in the cabin, so I only charge the airfare costs. This is usually more than shipping but it's a pleasure so I don't charge anything for my time, just actual costs.

I think Jac has placed all her puppies but hang on, I'll have puppies in a couple of weeks! Very Happy
