welcome to ellabee! (LAB?) cute name too by the way!
I think honesty about what a family can, or will pay for a Doodle is part of the whole picture! So no, you won't get flamed here. Many families
The fact of the matter is that there are lots of less-than-reputable breeders that don't look into whether their dogs are really good candidates for breeding just to turn a buck, and those that do choose breeding dogs carefully pay more for them!
Also, in my research the cost of ANY non-shedding breed is generally higher than Labs and Goldens, in general for pets. That is news for some people, so I thought I'd throw that in.
We aren't in the $2000 price range either, and we've got a litter of Standard, stately f1b puppies due in mid-April, so you are very welcome to contact me, either with the links to pm, email or my website.... And I am especially fond of the f1b generation because of the number of puppies that haven't shed for their new families.
It does seem that there is a reality to different regions having a price range, and we have placed puppies in the Northeast, probably because there are more expensive puppies in that region.
Shipping a puppy has gotten better and better, because the airlines know there's a big business there, but I have been glad to offer DELIVERY of our puppies and that is especially nice because it's an opportunity for me to meet our Doodle Puppy's new family, and affords them a chance to meet me. I love it when that works out!

Well, you know my opinion of Diane, so I don't need to tell you that I think you made a good choice! I really hope you keep in touch with the board because I'd love to see our pup's littermate grow! _________________ Kristin & dd Annie with our crazy doodle crew - Sandy, Iris, and Maggie

|

We just had to put our almost nine-year-old Great Dane down, and I'm looking for another dog - but one with a longer life span and of a somewhat more portable size. I saw an article, I think in the NY Times, about designer dogs and just loved the look of the Labradoodle. I had some questions I wanted to ask about possible breeders near me in NJ.
I was looking at Hope Woods in Manahawkin
http://www.hopewoodslabradoodles.com/
and Jerseydoodles near Atlantic City
http://www.jerseydoodles.com/
I saw that Linda mentioned Jerseydoodles earlier in this thread, but not Hope Woods, so I wondered if she'd heard anything about Hope Woods since she's from New Jersey as well.
I'm also confused about the difference between Australian labradoodles and the F1/F1B strains. It seems as though you'd be more likely to get a dog that had the characteristics of the cross that attracted you if he were from multigenerational breeding stock. But I know very little about this breed and how the first generation hybrids turn out. I do know that temperament and health are very important. Our Dane was the sweetest animal we've ever had (after other Danes and, long ago, Irish Setters.) We were unlucky enough to have a Dane prior to Maia who was a biter, and then got a rescue Dane who turned territorial and tried to attack our guests! So temperament's important, and from what I've read here and elsewhere, Labradoodles would fit the bill.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

i havent heard of Hope woods
The F1b Labradoodles are the most likly of any to be non shedding and allergy friendly
most of the australian labradoodle lines have other breeds infused in them as well as too much poodle in my opinion
Im in west virginia about 4hrs from NYC _________________ Nancy at Doodlesville(Virginia)

hi Leslie, welcome!
I'm an f1b doodle breeder, and in the future will have multigens that are JUST Lab and Poodle....whereas the progenitors of the Australian Doodle used several breeds in its foundational stock, (as many as 6) initially, and cockapoos more recently than we knew, as late as 2006, so that has to be a factor in researching, and knowing this major difference should be available to all who are considering the two different hybrids. A reputable multigen/Australian breeder should be able to talk with you about their dogs' pedigrees, and I'm sure the breeders on this forum would do that.
I agree Nancy that if a low-to-non-shedding Doodle is a primary goal then an f1b is a great choice, and frankly, since poodles have a 12-14yr lifespan, and f1bs are potentially 75% poodle, that might be a great blend for you for that reason as well.
Kathy, of Jersey Doodles is a real straight-shooter, in my interactions with her on a professional forum and I had, at one time, considered buying a breeding dog from her, if that helps you get a sense of my trust in her ethics and breeding. It wasn't because of her that I didn't buy that dog, by the way, but other factors.
I've had a couple different opportunities to say this, this week, but I think the wise puppy-buyer chooses a breeder before choosing a puppy. Then you can have a sense of trust in the person, as well as an adorable puppy to live with.
Best wishes and again, welcome!! _________________ ~Maureen

Hi Leslie, glad to see you have been activated. I am just now getting around to catching up on things here. Sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier today. I don't know anything about Hope Woods Labradoodles, it looks like they are doing great work but I see no mention of health testing their breeding stock or any mention of a guarantee. I may have over looked these two important things so please ask questions before proceeding any further with them.
Jersey Doodles does test their breeding stock and does give you a 2 year guarantee.
There is a New Jersey breeder listed on the International Australian Labradoodle website called Serendipity Doodles, you might check them out also.
Good luck in your search for a Labradoodle and welcome to the forum _________________ Di & Archie
