SHE'S MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going to pick her up on Saturday morning.
I'm so excited I can't type!!!!!
THe vet said that Buster is in pretty good shape, all things considered. He thought another dog would be good for him. He siad that if Buster could choose, he'd probably pick a 4 or 5 year old companion, but he will tolerate a puppy okay. I told the vet all about Buffy, and he said Buster should do great with a friend like that! I'll tell ya, that vet just earned the thousands of dollars I have paid him over the years - ha ha. Truly, I've always liked him and totally trusted his judgement!
So, I called and confirmed it with the husband - and he's in.
I just got off the phone with the lady from the rescue and she's ours. We are going to run down there Saturday morning to pick her up. OMG I am so excited.
You guys better be ready for lots of photos!!!! Maybe Gene could teach me how to make a link like he did?
Okay - let loose with the advice, everyone! Novice doodle parent in the room!!!!!!!! |

Welcome to "DOODLE LOVE".
My husband started out saying, "it's your dog...you'll have to train, clean up yada yada yada. Now it's, "Tanner's daddy's good boy....what a good boy".
Doodles wrap these guys around their "paws" in no time. Soon you'll hear that it was your hubby's idea.
My most important items for doodles list include"
Bully Sticks
Nature's Miracle
Groomacomb

Hi Betty, congratulations, she is a beauty! I know that you will be very happy with her and I respect and admire anyone who gives a loving home to one of these "discarded" darlings.
Your happiness should not be marred with my argument against selling puppies through shelters...so I promise, I won't rain on your parade...I am sincerely happy for you. This puppy is darling! _________________ jacque.bayley.lexie.chase.rosie.nitos.amelia.dupree.madison.sherwood.gerry www.backporchlabradoodles-jacque.blogspot.com www.backporchlabradoodles.com |

Here are a couple pictures of Buffy's big brother Buster:
He's laying down here - photography by my 7 year old!
Do they have "I'm a Big Brother" t-shirts for dogs?
Jac - I totally get what you are saying. I truly don't think that this woman, this rescue, is doing that. This woman at the rescue essentially put this byb out of business. She took the adults out of there. Just as an example of the kind of rescue this is.......they took a 1/2 dozen heartworm infected labradors from the Tennessee lab rescue, because they won't treat them there. They were all young adult labs - cute as can be. Now she is getting them all set for adoption.
You can check out the website to see if you think they are legit...www.kylabrescue.com. I read your post under another thread about this very subject, and I completely agree that it would be wrong to intentionally acquire doodles from mills or byb or brokers, to sell them at shelters to make money for the shelter/rescue. In my heart of hearts, I do not believe that this is what this rescue is doing. She did not seek these dogs out.
At any rate - I'm down right giddy. I really appreciate your support!!!!
Thanks. |

I'm leaving here around 3. It's a little over 1 and 1/2 hours where I'm heading, so it will take awhile. If I don't get an update on here tonight, i'll get it on in the morning.
I'm nervous and excited. I've already promised my husband I won't come home with a dog today. I'm on a fact finding mission only. If my questions are all answered appropriately, the dogs are what we are looking for, and our vet says Buster can handle it (he has an appointment tomorrow morning), then we'll go back down on Sunday with the whole family.
Ughh!!!!!
Buster has an appointment tomorrow for a diabetes check, so I'm gonna get the vet's opinion as well. I'm afraid he's gonna suggest that Buster's time is up, which, obviously I'm suspecting on my own. I still think he's got some time left, even if that time is spent laying down:) I asked Buster what he thought about another dog, and he said he'd have to get back to me.
By the way - Jac - what is a north american retriever? I was just looking at your website - cute dogs!!!
Thanks everyone - for the advice and the good wishes. The forum rocks!!! |
BETTY...i feel for you honey and wish you all the best with Buster. It must be hard on you right now.
I do know our Max 7 mos old is so much happier with a companion Peanut 11wks old. Also we sometimes go to my fiance's parents house 4mi down the road. They have a 12yr old cairn terrier female Charlie who is unfotunately going blind, almost deaf, and aging very quickly, and just healed from a broken pelvis. HOWEVER we're all surprised as for some reason Max and Peanut are calm around her. She also likes peanut and perks up when we bring her down as Charlie moves very slowly now.
NOTE: charlie is ususally nasty to all other family dogs.
OH North Amercian is the cross betwen a labradoodle and goldendoodle.
As for $500 that does seem a bit high but I would ask them as maybe it's to cover costs ? NO harm in asking.
And good luck on the "i am just fact finding" thing ....i am not as strong as you. I end up coming home with one like Peanut.
PS Keep us posted both on Buster and a possible new doodle _________________ Annmarie, Max,& Peanut

Betty,
I'm so excited for you!! And Buster is one handsome boy. I'm sure he'll be glad to have a breathing chew toy!! I know how you're feeling right now since I just went through it last saturday. It's exciting and a little scary at the same time, but well worth it. I would definately take Buster with you to meet his new sister to see what he thinks. Jonah was fine with Miko, but he had more interest in the cats!
The rescue I went through in WV did the same thing. They bought out the breeder because he was being "investigated". Glad he's done, and so glad I could save Miko. Since he bobbed all there tails, they wouldn't even have made it to a pet store, probably dumped somewhere...... _________________ gene , jonah , miko and rumor
