OK folks...Max still can't digest dog food when mixed in with his bland diet of boiled rice/beef/chicken.

YES he's got bad diarrhea again !!! I feel so bad for him yet he seems happy alert ...etc meaning fine. talked to the VET giving 2nd dose of worming meds today...also another round of antibiotics too.

OK NUTRO, INNOVA PUPPY, INNOVA EVO, BLUE BUFFALO...are ALL NO GO"S!!!

anyone else ever have this FOOD problem possibly after worms?

any advice or reccommendations are appreciated.
PRESCRIPTION food costs $21 for 8lbs bag!!! I cannot afford to do that on a continual basis.

thanks so much!!!!

Oh, Annmarie, I'm so sorry he's having those problems again. I don't have any advice for ya. Did the vet do another stool sample before giving 2nd dose of worming med or is it routine to give 2 doses? I'd be worrying about the toxicity of the worming med, but, I'm sure your vet knows what he/she's doing. Would it be cheaper to stick with the rice and chicken for a while compared to buying the prescription food?

YES we did a stool sample a week or so ago...he was free of worms. his intestines however were really irratated and inflamed.

YES the 2nd worming is routine for Max's previous problem.

MOVISTAR...i'll ask about the Duck stuff. I am debating on anohter week of bland diet ONLY and let his intestines completely settle down?
versus the precription dog food. Heading to vet/s in another hour.
We are going to give him another dose of antibiotics for his intestines and recheck his stool again early next week.

Have you tried Dick VanPatten's Natural Balance. It's the food Mia came home with and she's never had a problem with her tummy.

It's not always easy to find. In Canada PetSmart doesn't carry it but I have found it in Tisol and Pet Food n More (don't know if these stores are in the US).

I also mix in just a bit of canned green tripe so she will eat everything in one go, rather than nibbling all day.

Good luck ... I know there's nothing worse than a dog with diarrhea ... my old Springer has a very unreliable tummy but the vet says that's just old age. Sad

Hi Annmarie,
Yesterday I went to buy my 40lb.bag of dog food at our local holistic, all natural pet store. I told the owner about Max, and she suggested 'California Natural'....I've included the web-site for you to take a look at...
Hope he gets better soon...!

p.s. About 2 months ago, Molly had 'projectile diarreha' so to speak for a week...her insides were all messed up and inflamed...(she was vomiting also) the vet put her on meds and a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice...the last time I brought her in for her final check-up, the vet told me that the week Molly had this problem, she had had quite a few dogs with this type of sickness...none of the vets seemed to know what it was, or where it came from...Molly continued to heal, but it took a few weeks until she regained her appetite..the vets seemed to think it was some kind of virus going around...
hope this helps! Wink

or what i would do,,is first a 14day dose of metronitazole
this should clear up any issues ,bacteria or otherwise in his intestines,,if still doesnt help after that a barum enima , to make sure everything is in proper working order,
thats what i would do anyway

OH you all all sooooo nice to me!!and max...I appreciate your advice and support...thank you sooooo much. You don't how good it feels to have support like this!

I am going bye another VET office later today and in a minute calling another one as well.

YES Max was on a 7 day Metronidazole medication 250mg once a day and going back on it for another 7 days. I am leavng now to pick it up.

I am also carefully comparing food ingredients too ..to see if there is an allergy to something?you know what I mean.

Max's appetite is very good on his bland diet and he's drinking water,
did a doodle 500 run outside short while ago hahhaha sooo he's acting normal ...which makes me happy.
I just feel so bad for him and want to see him 100% again.

Annmarie - you probably already know this, but, yogurt with LIVE culture will replace any good bacteria in the intestines that the antibiotics have killed.

HI Again...and yes bought yougurt last night

Just got off the phone with 3 different VET offices..2 of which were referrals. ONE has quite a few labradoodle and goldendoodle patients!!
relief!!...Soooo I am finishing Max's med's with present Vet's office...2 also advised they would have him on same meds.

Next, they said if Max is clear of worms (he is) NOT to worry about puppy #2 jsut make sure she's uptodate on worming and shots.
Finally, next week will switch VETS!!!! and go with the one that seem to be quite precise, thorough, caring and also didn't seem to mind my 1001 questions I had hahahhahaaa
and also has DOODLE experience!!!!

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh i feel like a worrywort but better to be safe than sorry?

Thank youuuuuuu so much EVERYONE!!!!! your support, concern and advice means so much and is amazing!!!!
gotta go walk Max and feed him then putting him in crate for nap time. He's wound up tighther than a top today hahahhaa and just broke my lamp hahahhahaaa yes laughing as I can't get mad...hell it was an accident!

Annmarie,
Like Kim just mentioned, the live culture in yogurt (plain) is wonderful for
their tummies to replace the good bacteria. Another even easier way thet I found, and that our vet suggested, is acidolpholus. You can find it in the vitamin section of CVS,Walgreens,Walmart, etc....I twisted open the capsule and sprinkled it on Molly's food....
Our doctor reccomends it also for us or anyone taking antibiotics.
Good Luck!

wow!!! Dave and my kids are really touched (me too) with all the help/replies..my family and max thanks you as well.

Funny...while returning my food at Petsmart there a breeder there. hahaha she went thru something really similar.
Long story short: my breeder, other breeder , this forum etc all seem to gravitate toward FISH/sweet poato.

Then I had flashbacks of living down south again on the island. hahaha know what/ my dog and all my family's dogs ALL caught fish and ate them. They were always healthy, coats were great and no health problems.

Anyway, Max is on antibiotics for 7days ...then we'll take it from there.
and yes FISH it's going to be and we'll just all put clothespins on our noses!!
Shocked Wink Rolling Eyes Very Happy Very Happy
