Leslie,

When I was a kid, we had a fox terrior mix dog. He got out one day (I don't remember how) and was gone for a week. We lived on the edge of a small town with farms to the outside of town. We went all over the countryside looking for "Pokey" but no one had seen him. I sprained my ankle in a mud puddle looking for him in the rain. (I DO remember that!) One day, I was out with my mother and when we got back, the house was wide open and my brother (who was supposed to be home) was nowhere to be found. My mom was really mad that he could be so irresponsible until we found out why. He had heard Pokey barking. He found him inside a farmers fencing trying to figure out how to get home. He knew he was close and was barking to get my brother's attention (at least I think so!) He was so tired and hungry, I don't know what he survived on while he was lost, but he sure was glad to be home! I know the pads on his feet were sore, he walked so much. Anyway, just when we had given up, there he was. So don't give up hope.

Cinnamon and I will keep you, Calvin & Lizzie in our prayers, too.

Well, I have been gone all day. After dropping the kids off at school, I went driving around, calling their names. I took dog bones with me and left a trail to home. (Calvin is totally driven by food). I made and put up fliers around the area and posted them at the schools, too. I called and reported them missing to the police so if anyone calls them with a sighting they will call me. I also called the animal shelter-just in case. I changed the message on my home phone to say that if they have seen my dogs to call my cell, since I am probably out looking for them.

The phone has not rang all day. That concerns me. Where are they? Why has nobody seen them? They are so friendly, Calvin would just go up to anybody in hopes of getting some food or attention.

I came home for lunch. Put food and water out on the front porch, just in case. And now I am going back out there. More fliers to post. More miles to search. More tears to shed.

Thanks for positive thoughts...Keep 'em coming..
Leslie

Hi Leslie, not even sure this could be a possibility, but saw this today. I know they are wearing their tags, but you never know.

Leslie, my thoughts and prayers have been about you and your doggies since I first read your plea.

I recently read where you can buy like GPS units and have them attached to the dog's collar. That way you can find them by a signal. Sounds like something that I might check into further. I just wouldn't be able to stand it not knowing where my dogs are. Hang in there! I'm going to call on my doggie angel for help too.

Leslie,
Still praying for Calvin and Lizzie. Are they microchipped? If not by you, maybe Lizzie was microchipped by her prior owner? It might be worth checking?
A news story for you:
Quote:
Missing Dog Finds His Way Home... After 6 Yearsby Sherry Morse

The Flores family of Wichita, Kansas received an early Christmas present this year when their beloved dog Bear, who had disappeared in November of 1997, made it back home in time for Thanksgiving in 2003.

Jeanie Flores looked out the window of her house two days before Thanksgiving to see a dog that looked exactly like Bear standing outside.

She recalls thinking, "Oh my God. I think that's my dog!"

She called the dog; and he responded.

Jeanie burst into tears, then called her husband Frank and told him she thought Bear was really home.

Frank Flores rushed home and, after seeing the dog, agreed with his wife that the brindle lab-chow mix was indeed their Bear.

One of the family's neighbors told them she had spotted Bear a little earlier, walking around and carefully scrutinizing the houses.

A veterinarian who examined Bear said that although his paws were red and sore in spots, probably from pounding the pavement, he only weighed one pound less than when he disappeared. It appeared that someone had been taking care of him.

Bear had disappeared in 1997 about one month after the Flores family had moved to a new neighborhood. Jeanie let him out for exercise one night, and he never came back.

"I waited up all night for him, and he never came home," she said.

At the time, Bear's ID tag had not yet been updated with his new address.

The desperate family put up signs, canvassed their old neighborhood, ran ads in the paper, and visited shelters, but, tragically, the dog that Mr. Flores had brought home as a puppy in 1990 seemed to have disappeared without a trace.

Since his extraordinary return home six years later, Bear has been catching up on his sleep and getting reacquainted with his family, which includes a son who was not yet born when the dog disappeared.

The Flores family said they just wish that Bear could tell them where he's been all this time.

"Where was he? We don't know how rough a life he's had," Frank Flores said.

Leslie,
I found a very helpful page detailing what to do. Here is an excerpt:
Quote:
Call local veterinarian offices during the day. After 5 PM, call veterinarian emergency clinics.

Find out if your pet was injured and taken to any of these offices or clinics for treatment.

If an office has taken in or treated any animal that even remotely resembles your pet, VISIT THE OFFICE IN PERSON. Your description of your pet and their description of the same pet rarely match. YOU MUST GO SEE FOR YOURSELF!
Also ask them for the phone numbers of local rescue organizations. They generally keep a list and may even work with them.

Call each of the rescue organizations and ask for their help and find out if they have your pet. These groups generally network with each other and will pass the word about your case.

Here is the page:

Leslie, I did'nt read anywhere where you put your plea for finding your dogs on the radio station - I know in our area if we call they will put them on and repeat it every half hour so word gets out - maybe your local station will do that for you.

Well, another day has gone by. As night is here and I need to go to bed, I am slightly nauseated and deeply sad. I hope they are warm. I miss them so much. I feel I have done all I can. Posted fliers, contacted local police, shelters and vets. I put an ad in the paper for tomorrow. All I can do is wait...I don't do that very well.
