I've probably mentioned this a few times now but we think we should have named Archie "Hoover". He only chews a few things but he loves to steal things and carry them around to taunt us. I THINK Chester, being the more dignified and mature doodle, sometimes tries to tattle on Archie by coming in to the room and standing almost at attention with his tail straight up. One of us will look and the from the other rooms the rest will usually hear "Archie!" and then an attempt to not laugh at the latest antics. "Drop it" has become a favorite phrase.

No doubt all the toys are tempting. He had to have been really suffering this afternoon. He was laying on the nursery floor while I read Kiya a story before nap time, and she was standing in her crib playing her favorite game of late "Everybody out!" where she grabs the 3 blocks and several stuffed animal friends and one by one throws them overboard...to land right in front of Murphy. He did really well! He only grabbed (slowly, oh ever so slowly mind you) a TY dinasoar once and released it without hesatation when asked, then just put his head back between his paws in what seems to be a classic Doodle pose and stared longingly at the plush falling all around him...come to think of it when I kicked him out because it was time for her to nurse and go to sleep is when he harassed the cats and chewed the ring. Confused Coud he be that attached to me already that he is seeking revenge? Or was it a sudden loss of control like a kid in an unattended candy store? Quite honestly other than always being in the same room as me, he seems somewhat indiffrent toward me.

OH! and I gave him a sock! He doesnt care. He doesnt want it. I figure either he really is strange, or its no fun if I give it to him.

eetubbs, they look like they are having a ball! literally since there also seems to be a ball in each pic! Laughing I think it would be great if Murphy liked to swim, however Northern Utah in winter isnt the time to find out! Very Happy I could take him to the base indoor pool and see what happens, Im sure "they" would LOVE that! Although once a year at the end of summer they do host a doggie swim at one of the outdoor pools on base...could say we where running a little late. Wink

eetubs ...great pics!!! too cold up here though it has been in 50's daily which is strange but no complaints here.

ethridg3: giving a sock to doodle??? Shocked you broke doodle commandment #1:thou shalt steal each sock I find as i am the conqueror. Razz

Also MAX cries pitifully when we take a bath and he realizes it is NOT for him. Crying or Very sad Yesterday he tried a new tactic: steal moms slippers/shoes, show them to her in the tub, race off and sound like your ripping them apart while doing the tazmanian devil run in her bedroom.
YES folks, what a sight ! deciding NOT to let him get away with this, get out of the tub starked naked, scold him, take back my shoes, make him lie down (aka settle) and get back in the tub. I swear I could hear him giggling. Cool

Lately he politely steals paper, panties, etc and brings them to me like I had lost them? hhahhahha YES I tell him how good he is for finding all the stuff he brings sopping wet of doodle licks. BUT no holes. Laughing

I can certainly relate to doodles stealing for attention. My husband had a bunch of male friends over one night and after the initial petting etc, their attention turned away from Sadie to other things. Well, that did not go over well with her. She was being rather pesky so I took her into the bedroom where I was sitting reading. Finding that rather dull, she proceeded to steal my bathing suit bottom from the laundry basket and race out to the living room with it in her mouth. I raced out after her, trying to grab it out of her mouth without calling a lot of attention to myself or the bathing suit bottom! My husband was laughing his head off, but thankfully the others were so engrossed in their conversations they didn't really notice what was in her mouth. GEEZ!

I am sooooooooooooo glad that others have the "hidden chew" issue. I too will dig around Boyd's mouth until I am satisfied that nothing remains and two seconds later he's giving me that "I know I'm doing something wrong look" and start chewing again. The funny thing is, some things he puts in his mouth he spits out immediately (cigarette butts and orange peels to name a few) and it's hilarious. He loves sticks, paper, napkins and cardboard!! The bathing suit bottom reminds me of when Archie stole my (VERY well endowed) sister in law's bra. She said she was laughing so hard she couldn't get the words "drop it" out. He'd just prance by with it. She had to get serious when Chester joined the fun and a game of tug of war started. I told her I was just happy they didn't suffocate under the thing.

Good News!

For all you Murphy fans out there. I called the shelter contact this morning and told them we definatly wanted to adopted Murph, and asked how to do it right now. She told me that they where very happy we where happy but unfortantly it would have to wait until Saturday because thier director was in the hospital! She said everything was up in the air and they where trying to focus on the animals in the shelter at the moment. However she would call everyone else and have it be known that for all intensive purposes Murphy is ours! That any inquires should be told that he has been adopted. She also said that we would recieve a voucher for a free vet exaime and his nuetering (which is already scheduled for Monday, sorry buddy). So it would seem that the shelter has redemed itself in my eyes, although I stil dont agree with the raising of thier fee for Murph I am glad that they will hold up to thier end of his care. So on Saturday afternoon we will be offical Doodle owners. Probably have to move this conversation over to the owners thread...or just rename it "Murphys Friends" Very Happy

On a slightly down side, I think Murph might have kennel cough. He started caough yesterday a little and its picked up in intensity today. Luckily Oscar is vaccinated and its easy enough to treat, lets just hope that all it is.

Congratulations! Sounds like Murphy is already a part of the family so this will make it official.

I would ask the vet about having the surgery if he has kennel cough. Might be better to wait until he is healthy again.

Bad into good news.

After I got out of the shower I noticed a spot of blood on the crapet next to Murphy this afternoon. I took a closer look and it was a blood mucus mix sitting on top of the carpet. On closer examination of Murph I discovered it was coming from his nose! So I called the contact at the shelter and she said she would call thier vet and to take him over there. Good news: He just has a upper respitory infection. Lungs are clear, no kennel cough (he was clearing his throat). His weight is 51.7lbs and the vet said other then the respitory infection he looks perfect. I asked about his weight and she said he was fine, after talking about it for a minute we came to the conclusion Im just used to pudger dogs Laughing . She gave us some antihistimines and antibiotics and said if it ends up that hes not vaccinated to wait about 3 weeks before doing it. Otherwise he has a clean bill of health. Imgonna call the vet that is doing the nutering and ask if they want to wait on it though.

Whew! I'm glad Murphy is doing fine! I held my breath while I was reading what happened. I guess I am definitely a Murphy Fan Club member! Laughing
